ExLibris: Charity Book Sale Weekend

Masked Booksellers | 30.08.2009 19:23

ExLibris, the Masked Booksellers, rescue discarded books and resell them to raise money for charity. All books are sold cheaply so that everyone can afford them. You may have seen us around, at the Green Festival and similar. Now we are happy to announce our third annual Book Sale in Carlton.

Money taken will be split between Nottingham and Notts Refugee Forum Destitution Fund (which helps to support destitute asylum seekers - see  http://www.nottsrefugeeforum.org.uk/index.htm) and the Stroke Association ( http://www.stroke.org.uk/).

We have loads of new stock for sale – too much to display at once. More books will be put out on Sunday, so make sure you come both days to avoid missing out. We are privileged to have been donated the personal library of Keith Leonard of Mushroom Books. For the last eleven years of his life, Keith lived with disability caused by a stroke. Therefore we have chosen the Stroke Association to be one of the beneficiaries of our sale.

Where?
16 Vernon Avenue, Carlton, NG4 3FX

When?
Sat, Sept 19th, 12 to 7 pm and Sun, Sept 20th, 12 to 6 pm.

Low prices. A wide selection of fiction and non-fiction books (including children's), from only 10p, a few CDs, a smattering of bric-a-brac, and delicious cakes!

Please help us by printing out and displaying the poster, and email it to your friends, especially the bookish ones. Thanks.

(Why are we masked? Come along and ask us.)

What we've done with the dosh

02.09.2009 15:17

Since 2006, ExLibris has been rescuing books that might otherwise have been thrown away. These books have then been sold very cheaply, so that everyone can afford them, and money taken has been given to charities and campaigns etc.

In this time, we have taken £826.86 from the sale of books, and, after expenses (stall hire fees) given away £796.86 to:

NNRF Destitution Fund £445.38
Maternity Worldwide £ 4.50
Nottingham Friends of the Iraqi People £ 71.70
Palestine Solidarity Campaign £ 22.20
Hayward House Cancer Care £181.77
The Sparrows’ Nest Anarchist Library £ 71.31

We also maintain a small collection at the Sparrows’ Nest, proceeds to them.
