Shayler is, of course, ex-MI5. The extent of the "ex" factor has been questioned by some people.

Even if this isn't the case (and who knows?) there is absolutely nothing to be gained from any entanglement with this idiot, and disruption always ensues. Currently claims to be Jesus Christ, I believe.

What is the drive to make any website text about M15, M16 or any spooky surveilance into a riot of colourful pinks and blues?

It reminds me of UFO nutcase magazines who do a similar one as borderland.co.uk with every paragraph in different colours?

He is being discredited because of his very damaging alegations about britain paying al-queda millions to assinate Gadafi in the 80s.

I'd bet money he die in a suspicous accident soon, all alone with no support having been totally discredited.

The anti-war movement really should stick up for him, for he really has something important to say about the war on terror. Whether it be false flag terrorism, secret dirty deals or the way MI5/MI6 really act.

Russian Litvinencho was another similar whistleblower who had no support, and very important things to say about the way the Putin & KGB supported al-queda in Sudan in the 1980s.

It is generally accepted, even by the mainstream, that the information he leaked from within MI5 was true.

But it sounds like he has lost the plot now. At least he is happy though, and it gives people a laugh. Don't know that I would trust him though!

Is David Shayler a threat to the activist scene? No,at least no more than any of the loose lipped,mobile obsessed, alcohol soaked thrill seekers who gravitate to the temple of the self rightous. He'd hardly be undercover. Do the climate campers realise that not only are they photographed but every word uttered at their 'radical' camps are listened to inside a tent or out of it. Remember Heathrow?, judging by the pigs equipment on display I thought Elvis was going to make an appearence. David has been through the mill make no mistake and deserves a bit of slack. Remember 90% of 'actions' are just titting about - ffs don't start believeing your own hype. When the big cctv were put up around our way they were just sawn down by the local youth, no name check,no party, no fund raiser,no medal. Cut the elitist bullshit!

People are right to retain an open mind and a maintain a healthy skeptical attitude when it comes to Shayler.

The nature of the area he worked in was of course founded on the art of deception. Working for an agency with an agenda to mislead and mould public perceptions, misdirect and subvert pro-people political movements, to the ultimate benefit of current ruling elites, the ship of state, corporate interests and capitalism. The welfare of we hoi polloi of course figures way down on the list of priorities.

The extent to which he is or is not 'ex' is difficult to say. Certainly it would be an extraordinarily fantastic plot to:

- publicly pursue and prosecute a whistleblowing member of their staff, with saturation coverage in the media for years
- send a guy into exile in a foreign country and into jail back here

All to give him a cover, which is in essence what the skeptics are saying, to infiltrate the anti-war, 9/11 truth and now the climate change movement.

Why would such a charade be necessary when the intelligence available through existing covert humint (informants and agents on the ground) and comint (CCTV, FIT, email, facebook, twitter and mobile monitoring and eavesdropping) is so effective?

Aside from a possible agenda of movement discreditation, a well known ex member of MI5 attending any meeting of the above spouting theories about holographic planes on 9/11, being Jesus, the Messiah etc, is hardly going to be the most effective of spies. Shayler has reportedly given interviews extolling the virtues of dope, which has been known to trigger a degree of mental/cognitive imbalance, religious euphoria and even psychotic episodes.

Bearing all this in mind, in my opinion the balance of probabilities would indicate that Shayler, while clearly appearing a bit on the eccentric side, is probably quite kosher.

After years working in an intensely controlling, hiearchical and somewhat oppressive and often back stabbing profession ('rectum defende' as opposed to regnum defende being the operative motto on the ground!) he has found a new life and sense of liberty as a hippy, albeit a slightly eccentric one (as they often are!)

Perhaps one day though we can look forward to the day he becomes another ex - an ex eccentric.

Having spoken to David several times in the past year or so, this is my take on him:

Either he is in fact Jesus Christ... or... he's stark raving bonkers. I really don't think he is working for 'them'. He did a genuine bit of whistle blowing, and frankly if he's still undercover then he's in line for an Oscar. I would be surprised if an undercover agent was allowed to take psychodelic drugs and smoke as much as him. His knowledge of the occult would be another bit of method-acting par excellence.

I agree with another posting that if he did indeed divulge some genuine MI5 info, was on the run and did a prison sentence, then, actually he didn't get any protection from anyone. It looks like the whole episode left him psychologically battered and he did in fact go mad (or God picked him out and he's now working for the big man).

He's living with raggle taggle squatters and hippies now, and if he shows up at the next Climate Camp event, I think he's to be taken as yet another casualty from society who's turned to the protest camp/squat scene because no one else will have him.

Im not convinced that david shayler is still employed by the secret services.

However, it would probably be beneficial if some hardened ALF/ELF/Blac Bloc/Revolutionary Struggle types kidnapped him and questioned him, held him for a bit and see if any f**ker turns up to rescue him. Then we'd know for sure!!

No offence intended, but he's not really a threat if we all know who he/she is and what he/she looks like.

We should be concentrating on catching the ACTUAL spies in the Sumac and other places where we know they operate spying systems and information gathering. FFS!

David Shayler is not a naughty boy, he is a grown up man who has lost it. Hes not MI5, either intellegance gathering or pys op. Hes just lost it. He really does think hes the new Messiah, I.e. hes not playing a game as such, hes insane, and if he gets arrested and replies to questioning that he is the Messiah, then he will get a pyscriatric assessment and sectioned. (possibly). All this undermines anything really he said about MIperv etc in the past. He also makes for a very ugly woman. He should stop taking drugs, stop making statements to the media about this and that, take down his website and get outside and do some permaculture or the like.

Okay, I know that is a crude thing to ask, but when it all boils down to it, what does David Shayler add to the campaigns to stop climate chaos, or anything else of a similar ilk for that matter? He's just an individual, and unless he is working on the radical social change needed to prevent climate change then he's just an irrelevant distraction.

..hes NOT A FUCKING MI5 AGENT (anymore). Hes just a bit mad. Hes kinda gone through a mind opening, but in a very squewed and ego inflationary way. Thus there are elements of truth in his ramblings. Yes the 'west' is a construct of shit, essentially on a ritual level, and thus the actual fundimental solution is some sort of magical/spiritual/energy level based transformation of individual and collective consciousness. Appropriate direct action is definitely part of the engine of change as regards this level of reality, as well as being an obvious mechanism for changing reality, both individually and as a community. I know this stuff from doing direct action myself, and obseving the occult (basically) aspect of it all - not something that I anticipated whatsoever from previously, seeing folks on video shaking fences and the like at road protest camps. I repeat. The occult (side effects) of doing this work is for real and huge, and I could see that if everyone started doing this sort of thing (Its actually more than 'occult side effects' because the thing actually becomes driven by the Mother Earth!) It would be a huge positive impetus in society to make a pagan goddess/mother Earth aspect aware and respecting society - kinda along the lines of old school Native Aermcian world...but with local influence obviously. Now, Indymedia editors/censors tend to be very materialistic, communistic even, and so hostile to these views and realities. However, its common knoledge out in the real world of direct action protests - ESPECIALLY the long term people that have lived 'on site' for a while, and thus connected into this stuff. Seriously, Indymedia will probably edit off this comment, and people that see it before they do should start to seriously question just where Indymedia UK is at, and consider setting up a news server that doesn't have such a covert agenda, such a invasive and controlling attitude to consorship...or even perhaps (how 'site' shall we make it?!) consider giving these disrespectful, egoising, full of themselves kids, a damm good slapping.
