Nottingham Animal Rights

Pat | 11.02.2010 11:06 | Animal Liberation

Fur campaign continues - 4 down, 2 to go; and more ongoing campaign news.

Nottingham Animal Rights group campaigns on a range of subjects in many different ways.

For example quiet leafleting outside a number of fur retailers has resulted in 4 out of 6 withdrawing animal fur this season alone. The campaign is very positive and optimistic for further successes. See  http://furfreenotts.weebly.com/demonstrations.html

The campaign at the greyhound racetrack is working on a longer term. Whilst most people are aware of the senseless cruelty involved in the fur trade, there is less understanding that about 500 greyhounds every year are put to deat. For example, Unleash Castro, a 21 months old greyhound, collapsed and died after winning a race on April 11th 2009 at Nottingham. So the fortnightly sessions at Nottingham Greyhound Stadium Demo are a valuable way of raising public awareness. More at  http://nottsgreyhoundaction.weebly.com/

Another campaign that you might find suit your interest is the general promotion of veggie/vegan food (you need not (yet) be veggie yourself). For example there is to be a free food give-away at McDonalds on Monday 15th February. Call 07870 861837 or see
 http://www.veggies.org.uk/event.php?ref=1400 for details.

Members of the group run Brinsley Animal Rescue, a volunteer organisation dedicated to caring for animals, many ’surplus to requirements’ from the meat, dairy and egg industry. See details at  http://www.veggies.org.uk/event.php?ref=1562. Get in touch if you'd like to be put in touch with those that provide regular transport from Nottingham.

In addition to this the group supports high profile protests, such as the National March & Rally Against Bradford University on Saturday 13th Feb, when campaigners from across the country will be descend on Bradford to call for the university to end all animal experiments. There will be a rally, stalls and speeches in Centenary Square and a march through Bradford town centre and up to the university laboratories. As is often th case there will be transport with Veggies Catering Campaign, who are providing catering support to the event. To join the trip call 07870 861837

We hope that you will find something here that fits your interests.

To get involved give us a call to attend any event, or drop in at a social / planning meeting, such as Thursday 11th Feb at the Sumac Centre in Forest Fields of Thursday 25th at the upstairs Mezzanine Bar at Broadway Cinema in the City Centre.
