Subverting the Tories

Just sayin | 27.04.2010 15:32 | Social Struggles

You may have noticed the new Tory ad campaign that has erupted like a rash on the phone boxes here in Nottingham. There are at least four different ads, each containing a slogan with 'Vote Conservative' in the bottom panel. The good news is that they are quite easy to deal with.

The Saatchis have obviously been kicking back with a spliff beacause these are mostly touchy feely "Cameron's anti-establishment, dude" affairs. 'People power' says one, 'Big Government = Big Problem' and 'Get Britain Moving'. Meaningless wank, of course.

The good thing is, they are really easy to unpeel. So should you wish to go around unpeeling all of the 'Vote Conservative' panels, you can.

Just sayin

Who?

27.04.2010 15:57

Who are you then? Peter Mandelson? Unless you support illegal wars, the erosion of personal liberties, the destruction of the economy, and the widening of the gap between rich and poor, just be brave and state who you think we should support. Otherwise it just makes you look like a complete coward jumping on a bandwagon.

Tony Blair

subliminal message in Tory Party logo

28.04.2010 00:46

Conservative Party logo
Conservative Party logo

There was an interesting article posted to Indymedia a few weeks ago that seemed to get hidden (unjustly in my view) about the use of subliminal messages in the Tory Party logo. I think the IM admins thought it was a wacky conspiracy theory but it seemed quite plausible to me. Unfortunately I don't have the link but basically the logo is a tree and the top left looks like an 'S' and the bottom right like an 'X'. Also there is a curly 'E' just before the X. Apparently this is a well-known advertising trick that is psychologically shown to be effective.

Once you look at the logo it does seem to stand out. In general I don't believe conspiracy theories but this one does seem very plausible.

Sublime Cons

28.04.2010 08:37

Nice work on the subvert. In regards to the tory logo conspiracy, I have to say the X seems to be pushing it a bit, if anything all I can see is a S and a W, maybe the tories are yet another Socialist Worker front group?

Socialist Wanker: "In regards to the tory logo conspiracy, I have to say the X seems to be pushing it a bit, if anything all I can see is a S and a W, maybe the tories are yet another Socialist Worker front group?"

lol. When the logo is a bit smaller, the squiggle at the bottom does look more like an X. Another theory is that there is an X immediately below the S which still works on a subliminal level. Maybe it is nonsense, I don't know. Advertising people are sneaky fuckers though so I wouldn't put it past them.

"Who are you then? Peter Mandelson?"

I somehow cant imagine Mandy roaming the streets of Nottingham ripping down posters... can you?

"Unless you support illegal wars, the erosion of personal liberties, the destruction of the economy, and the widening of the gap between rich and poor, just be brave and state who you think we should support. Otherwise it just makes you look like a complete coward jumping on a bandwagon."

Right, so let's get this straight. You think that opposing the Tories means you must be pro-Labour? Well, I'm not. I'm an anarchist and would happily destroy any of the class war mongering bastards material. It just so happens that the Tories have almost blanket coverage round here so they're the obvious targets.

And why do you think I'm a coward and jumping on a bandwagon?

An anarchist

Blame

28.04.2010 23:32

5 years ago I wrote a tract about the election. Went down the street handing some out. Plaid Cymru accepted as did the Lib Dems, Labour refused to accept a copy. I continued down the street lookong for more politicians and met a stranger with a big Conservative rosette. I offered him a copy and said how bad selling the Family Silver was. My hand was immediately grasped and shaken, and the delighted Politician said he would certainly read my paper that night.

Next week I had to write a letter to the local paper to explain how I had misled William Hague into shaking my hand. There had been a press photographer to snatch the picture which appeared in the local journal. I had to clear William Hague of being my best buddy as well as make clear that I was not his.

The problem is that according to the words they now use, the Tories are the most Anarchist of all the Parties contesting this election.
