Repay the Climate debt.

01-06-2009 18:14

This from from vicky tauli-corpuz chair of UNPFII.
I am sending a statement calling on Annex 1 countries to repay their historical adaptation and emissions debt. Please read this statement
and see whether your organization, nation or peoples can sign on to
this. I am now at the Climate Change negotiations taking place in Bonn
from June 1-12 and the civil society organizations along with
indigenous peoples will be speaking about this. We hope to get wide
support for this concept and proposal so that we can influence the
governments negotiating here in Bonn. This is a proposal coming from
Bolivia and other developing country governments and many civil
society organizations are in support of this.

Clashing
Protesters clashed with police in Copenhagen this weekend while attempting to disrupt the World Business Summit on Climate Change, a gathering of the worlds largest corporations and, not coincidentally, biggest polluters. Organized by the Danish government, the Business Summit gave corporate interests unprecedented access to the ongoing UN climate talks, including face time with UN General Secretary Ban Ki-moon and so called climate “hero” Al Gore.

Never Trust A COP

26-05-2009 12:48

The catastrophe is real and climate change is one of its many symptoms. The COP15’s inevitable talk of “saving the world from the climate crisis” is an elaborate hoax to disguise the COP15’s true purpose: to restore the legitimacy of global capitalism by inaugurating an era of “green” capitalism. Our response to this astounding lie is an uncompromising and absolute NO to their system.

climate thoughtcrime

22-04-2009 08:34

Last December government minister Ed Miliband said that 'popular mobilisation' was needed to create the pressure to reduce carbon emissions. He linked it to previous campaigns that had involved direct action.

"When you think about all the big historic movements, from the suffragettes, to anti-apartheid, to sexual equality in the 1960s, all the big political movements had popular mobilisation"

It sounds great doesn't it? And, when climate activists are essentially only asking for what science demands and what the government claims to want too, what could be the problem?

Someone should pass that thought on to other branches of government and state apparatus, as they appear to think differently on the issue.

Solidarity for the Coal Conspiracy 114

16-04-2009 13:33

Arrested for conspiracy, 114 people alleged to have been planning to shut down E-On's massive Ratcliffe coal fired power station have apparently found themselves voiceless, advised not to issue any statements to the media or friends. Unrelated groups however have been stepping into the void to express support for the alleged action and remind people that taking direct action to cut greenhouse emissions is something we should all be doing. Groups such as Rising Tide, Plane Stupid, Climate Rush, the Camp for Climate Action and others have already issued such statements and no doubt it would be great if a diverse range of groups did likewise.

Rising Tide releases guide to bogus climate change solutions

22-03-2009 20:29

Only a few years ago, some companies were saying climate change wasn’t a problem. Now, as its impacts become apparent, many of the same corporations are suddenly scrambling to claim leadership on the issue. Desperate to avoid regulation that may hit their profits, they present a dizzying array of “false solutions,” quick fixes that perpetuate inequalities in our society while they can cash in on the crisis. Upon closer examination, many of these technologies and policies are merely dangerous detours on the road to a just, livable planet, distracting us from the root causes of the crisis.

Rising Tide North America is pleased to announce the release of the first short yet comprehensive survey of these bogus climate change solutions.
