Remember the attack on the U.S. embassy in Yemen last month that took
the lives of eighteen people? A group calling themselves "Islamic Jihad"
claimed responsibility for the blast. It has a nice, scary ring to it hasn't
it? "Islamic Jihad" also happens to be the name of a group that operates
out of Gaza.

On October 1 the US launched AFRICOM, the Pentagon's outpost in Africa.
Commanded by a Black American general and incorporating State Department and
other civilian personnel from top to bottom it is billed as a "new kind" of
US military command.
Incorporating nearly all US civilian programs in Africa under its umbrella,
from trade to aid to public information, AFRICOM marks the militarization of
US policy toward what is already the most war-torn region in the world.
AFRICOM's planners offer their twelve year intervention in Somalia, where a
million out of ten million have died due to US intervention, as a "model"
for the continent.

It's hard to keep track of two mega-thieves at the same time. "The defense
bill is every bit as wasteful and just as much a harbinger of doom as the
much discussed Wall Street bailout, but has elicited hardly any debate, even
from progressives." And, just as with the bailout bill, Democrats in
Congress are ever ready to run up the white flag. "The collective popular
revulsion at the very presence of Bush in the White House has never stopped
Democratic party capitulation." War begets war. "Not only is military
spending completely unproductive, but it increases the likelihood of further
American acts of aggression.

US/NATO bombs kill about ten times more Afghan civilians with a ton of our
"precision" bombs than we killed Serbs in 1999. More than 80% of Afghan
civilian deaths today caused by the US/NATO are due to close air support
attacks. They (Afghans) are only worth one-tenth of an Alaskan sea otter
rather than forty camels. We spend ten dollars on the military in
Afghanistan to pursue our geo-strategic aims and less than $1 on
reconstructing the everyday lives of Afghans devastated by thirty years of
war.

At about 3.30am this morning political activists with tipper trucks blocked the entrances to Israeli company Carmel Agrexco.
The tipper trucks dumped builders rubble across both gates of the company headquarters in Hayes; similar barriers are common in the Israeli-occupied West Bank. Carmel Agrexco is a 50 percent Israeli state owned fresh produce importer, and much of this produce comes from illegal Israeli settlements in the West Bank and Jordan Valley. In fact, 70 percent of all illegal settlement exports are made by Carmel Agrexco.
