letter to the Greek Ministery of Merchant Marine re NECATI ZONTUL

a torture cartoon, promotion
Necati Zontul, who is an Oxford resident, was tortured in 2001 in Greece. Today, he received a letter from the Greek Ombudsman who claims the Minister of Merchant Marine has agreed to apologise and to promise that there would be no further incidents of torture by the Greek Coastguard. This is despite recent videos broadcast on YOUTUBE of Greek police torturing foreigners in custody! It is 6 years after the event and 2 years after a guilty verdict was reached. Read more >>

TRAVESTY OF JUSTICE? necati zontul torture trial without witness or testimony!

necati zontul and front cover torture cartoon film "My big fat greek... welcome"
(I think we should point out that both the writer and the victim of these dreadful incidents have been Oxford residents for the last few years, so it is legitimate for them to publish to Oxford Indymedia. eileen)
Necati was raped and tortured by Greek coastguards on the island of Crete in 2001, while an immigration detainee. Today, 5 years after the event, 5 men found guilty in 2004 (though charged with lesser crimes of abuse and sexual assault) remain in uniform. An appeal that we understand will see their acquittal today takes place in the absence of Necati and in the absence of his evidence. Necati's letters to the court have been ignored, and his attempt to telephone the court revealed astonishing bias in favour of the guilty coastguard officers. such is justice in Greece. The Prime Minister's office and the President's office have so far declined to comment. Read more >>

Women's Voices wanted for International Women's Festival choir

Poster for 'Women NOW' meeting, 22 November
Every year Oxford women organize an International Women's Festival, which takes place in March and lasts two weeks. It is a rich and varied celebration of aspects of women's lives. This year the theme is 'Women's Voices' and the Network of Oxford Women (NOW) for Justice and Peace has decided, as part of its contribution to the festival, to sponsor a women's singing group. We are now looking for women to come and join us in this exciting project - experience is not necessary. Come to our first meeting on Tuesday 22 in the Town Hall and help us choose the songs for our performance on 10 March. We will be including Greenham Common and suffragette songs in the programme. TSSSSS GETS LOUIS THEROUX'S SIGN OF APPROVAL

Video
The TSSSSS, The Topless Society of Sociopathic Sexually Selacious Sirens which is a very serious campaign organisation proclaiming the right for women to be topless in everyday situations in the same way that men are able to, we believe in self love, naturalness, topless organic gardening and the power of the breast to bring about radical social change, for the best. Last night in Borders Bookshop, Oxford we received Louis Theroux's seal of approval as he signed out breasts. Read more >>
