Sunday was the Global day of action to mark World Food Day. Everywhere, including Nottingham.

On Sunday morning, folks turned out to take part in the Worldwide Day of Action Against McDonalds. Nottingham's contibution to this, took place from 12noon at Exchange Walk in the City Centre.

Screening of the Argentinian film "i" + Intro + Q&A Session

Argentinian film makers including director Andres Ingoglia visited Nottingham as part of the european tour of their film "i". Over 60 people attended the screening which also hoped to inspire people about getting active in the local Notts Indymedia.

The film is a meditation on the relationship between media and power as it is manifested by the worlds largest all volunteer network of media activists: 'Indymedia'. The feature-length documentary follows the first year of a small collective in Buenos Aires as it struggles amidst assassinations, a collapsing economy, and a whirlwind of political upheaval.

Most people will have heard about the selling off of a massive area of the NHS to the private 'German' distributor, DHL, who this month are poised to takeover (from NHS Logistics) the warehousing and supply of thousands of items used by NHS hospitals and GP surgeries across the country. What is less widely mentioned in the press, perhaps as it's not as obvious in terms of effect on front-line public sector jobs, is that a massive US procurement operation Novation is also behind the new contract. Brought in to save money we are told, this Texan based company is under investigation by the US justice department for overcharging federal healthcare programmes for goods!

Nottingham's Goose Fair is one of Europe's largest travelling fairs, with more than 150 rides and 450 games and exhibitions to thrill and amuse. This was the 712th fair. It's been happening for a while [like over 700 years]. The fair started on thursday, with the offical opening by the Sheriff of Nottingham, The Lord Mayor, and assorted dignitaries from the Showman's Guild etc ..... The Charter was read and the silver bells rang, signifying the official opening at 12 noon.
