Forced removal of "failed" asylum seekers was in the headlines again last week when a couple sought sanctuary in a Glasgow church. It comes as a wave of "Voluntary Removal Notices" where people, mostly vulnerable families, are asked to report to Glasgow airport and deport themselves.

Solidarity protest outside Glasgow Immigration Centre tomorrow

Support asylum seeker families who have to report at the Glasgow Immigration centre at Festival Court, Brand Street (near to the Cessnock Underground station) Families are required to report here weekly or monthly and can be detained without warning and taken to detention centres. Thanks to weekly protests earlier this year, families reporting on Saturdays now only have to report once a month. Tommorrow is when the families are due to report in September.

Israeli Bomb Flights in Suffolk

It has emerged that two flights due to touch down at Prestwick on Saturday were diverted to the RAF Mildenhall military base in Suffolk. A third Atlas Air flight was believed to have landed at Prestwick. There has been no official confirmation of what was on board the planes. A spokesman for the US air force at RAF Mildenhall said two aircraft had been diverted from Prestwick. He said the Atlas cargo flights arrived late on Saturday night and would depart on Sunday. He could not comment on what was on board the planes, but said they were there to refuel and allow the crew to rest. A spokesman for Prestwick said the diversions meant that no such flights were due to land at the airport on Sunday. -BBC

Noise Demonstration in Support of Asylum Seekers 22nd June

Tyneside Community Action for Refugees (TCAR) organised a demo outside North Shields Reporting Centre. There were also demos outside reporting centres in Leeds, London and Manchester.

Glasgow - direct action group UNITY goes public!

Hundreds of asylum seekers are planning a campaign of direct action to prevent immigration officers removing people who are threatened with deportation.
Using prearranged phone networks, they aim to erect human barricades in front of flats and houses to prevent officials gaining access and set up watches to alert people who fear being taken into detention.

March in Glasgow for the Right to Work

March gets going along Paisley Road West Around 300 asylum seekers, refugees, sans-papiers and their supporters marched across Glasgow this afternoon calling for the Right to Work and an End to Deportations. As part of the international day of action against deportation, they went from the Home Office Reporting Centre in Ibrox to a rally in the Carnival Arts Centre in town.

In a last-minute move, Glasgow's Trades Hall has cancelled the booked rally of asylum seekers and friends there tomorrow afternoon. Strathclyde Police appear to have had a role in the decision a No Borders activist condemned as "racist".

Sheriff Officers Prevented from Evicting Elderly Asylum Seeker

Dapper (but surprised) Sheriff Officer arriving Sheriff officers arrived at a tower block in Cardonald, Glasgow, Wednesday morning (29th March) expecting to take possession of Mr Bajaj's flat and if necessary "place him out on the landing". They were prevented from doing so because they were met by friends and supporters of the family including Glasgow No Borders activists and Rosie Kane MSP.

50 protesters, including asylum seekers, church ministers and charity workers gave Tony McNulty, immigration minister - the man who refuses to end dawn raids on Scottish soil - the send-off he deserves, letting him know in no uncertain terms that asylum seekers are Scotland's future lifeblood and are needed and wanted here, but he is not.
