National Weekend of Action For Refugees / 9 events in 7 cities

This weekend actions will be taking place around the country in defence of asylum rights, following a call put out by Tyneside Community Action for Refugees. It's only by working together and building opposition locally that the Labour government's war on asylum seekers will be beaten. Please make an effort to get to your nearest action and get involved. Another Kurdish TCAR family snatched

Another Kurdish family who have been living in Newcastle for the last 6 years, and who have been active members of TCAR (Tyneside Community Action for Refugees) are due to be deported to Turkey this Friday. There will be an EMERGENCY DEMONSTRATION against the family's deportation on Wednesday 21st March, 4.30-5.30pm outside Government Offices North East, Gallowgate (opposite St James Park metro).

In memory of Uddhav Bhandari born Nepal 1967 killed by the UK's
'Unjust and inhumane' immigration laws Glasgow 19th March 2007

Uddhav set himself on fire at his appeal hearing in the Asylum and
Immigration Tribunal Centre in Glasgow's Bothwell Street on Wednesday
7th March 2007. Despite the efforts of staff in the building who
doused the flames, Uddhav sustained severe burns to all of his body
and died on Monday the 19th March.

2 Deportations from Tyneside Defeated this Week! - Includes action report

This week 2 TCAR families who have both been living in Newcastle for over 5 years were facing deportation. Joy and her daughter had received notification that they would be deported to Jamaica on Wednesday 14th March, despite a pending citizenship claim by her daughter, and Nurhayet and her family, held in Yarls Wood detention centre, had received fresh removal directions for Thursday 15th March, despite their fresh claim. After a massive campaign to the press, local MPs and the Home Office, and the second emergency demonstration outside Government Offices North East in a week, both families are for the time being out of danger.

Protesting in Brand Street Over a hundred Glaswegian asylum seekers and supporters, most of African origin, held a lively protest outside the Home Office Reporting Centre at Brand Street yesterday (Wednesday). They were protesting against the detention and attempted removal of Eddie Ngienga, Angelique Lukombo and their children, here since 1999.

Tyneside March Against Dawn Raids-Resistance to Deportations Continues to Build

On 20 January Tyneside Community Action for Refugees held a militant demonstration through the centre of Newcastle to protest against deportations of asylum seekers and to launch the pledge of resistance to snatch squads. Over 100 protesters from diverse communities marched under the banner ‘Here to Stay. Here to Fight. Defend Asylum Rights!’ and demanded an end to dawn raids, the name given to the brutal policy of snatching failed asylum seekers from their homes in the early hours of the morning.

Please help Zahra

Zahra at Unity demo 07.10.06 Zahra Byansi and her two boys were detained when reporting at the Home Office in Glasgow on Monday last week. She was moved to Yarls Wood detention centre on Saturday while her friends protested outside the Home Office in Glasgow organised by the Glasgow Campaign to Welcome Refugees. Zahra and her sons have been in Glasgow for over four years. She has made a huge contribution to the local community.
