Two imprisoned for violating Official Secrets Act

17-05-2007 10:51 | Iraq | Repression | Terror War | World

Punished for exposing Bush and Blair’s crimes in Iraq

The imprisonment of David Keogh and Leo O’Connor under the Official Secrets Act is a flagrant violation of democratic rights. In part aimed at intimidating opponents of the occupation of Iraq, it is bound up with efforts to conceal the contents of a discussion between George W. Bush and Prime Minister Tony Blair on actions illegal under international law.

Evil Empire: Is Imperial Liquidation Possible for America?

16-05-2007 00:53 | Anti-militarism | Iraq | Terror War | World

In politics, as in medicine, a cure based on a false diagnosis is almost always worthless, often worsening the condition that is supposed to be healed. The United States, today, suffers from a plethora of public ills. Most of them can be traced to the militarism and imperialism that have led to the near-collapse of our Constitutional system of checks and balances. Unfortunately, none of the remedies proposed so far by American politicians or analysts addresses the root causes of the problem.

“The Color of Blood, the Color of Resistance, the Color of Iraq.”

14-05-2007 23:10 | Iraq | Terror War | World

“If I ever get married again…..I don't want any of this white dress business. I shall wear red.
Bright red.
The color of blood, the color of roaring, erupting volcanoes, the color of a dying sun, the color of passion, the color of Resistance...The color of Iraq”.
Layla Anwar; Arab Woman Blues, “A Bed of Roses, A Bed of Thorns”

I wonder what goes through Cheney’s mind when he visits Baghdad. Does he ever look out the window of his armor-plated limmo and see the wasteland he’s created---the burned out buildings, the pock-marked streets, the wretched orphans sorting through the garbage for something to eat? Al Arabiya news says that there may be as many as 100,000 orphans in Baghdad now. These are Cheney’s kids, aren’t they--the Vice President’s gift to the “New Middle East”? The next generation of terrorists?

What a horrible legacy. What a horrible man.

IRAQ: Collateral Genocide

14-05-2007 23:01 | Anti-militarism | Iraq | Terror War | World

Two elements are necessary to commit the crime of genocide: 1) the mental element, meaning intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group, and 2) the physical element, which includes any of the following: killing or causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group; deliberately inflicting conditions of life calculated to bring about the group’s physical destruction in whole or in part; imposing measures intended to prevent births; or forcibly transferring children to another group.

Blair's Legacy... and the "Struggle Against Violent Extremism"

14-05-2007 14:15 | Analysis | History | Iraq | Terror War | Sheffield | World

Finally. Blair’s going. But why now? And what has Blair left us behind?

There are many reasons one can guess as to why, but perhaps one of the biggest – yet least talked about – is the “cash for peerages” criminal investigation, which has been getting rather close to home, too close perhaps for Blair’s comfort.

IRAQ: Terrorizing a Nation into Homelessness: Who is Responsible?

06-05-2007 10:12 | Anti-militarism | Iraq | Terror War | World

Last January, the municipality of Baghdad published a short advertisement calling tenders to bid on burying the tens of "unidentified" bodies found in the streets of the capital every morning for almost a year now. Few months before, the Iraqi ministry of Health proudly declared that it imported two big refrigerators with a capacity of 2 hundred bodies each, to keep those "unidentified" bodies. At the same time a new very big "state" graveyard was created to bury the bodies, after giving them numbers and taking their pictures , just in case one day a family would be lucky enough to identify a son, a husband, or a father…

MOD Reply To FOI Request
Ministry of Defence Admits Photograph Falsely Identified Location of UK/Iranian Maritime Incident

Its been a few weeks now since the end of the maritime border incident, which involved the arrest of 15 British military personnel by Iran, a diplomatic crisis and their subsequent release. In April, we posted [  http://craigmurrayfriends.blogspot.com/2007/04/british-mod-issued-two-different.html ] on the puzzling observation that the UK Ministry of Defence had provided two different sets of position coordinates to fix the site of the incident, and thereby prove that it occurred in Iraqi waters.

Occupied Iraq: Something about "Liberation"...

02-05-2007 01:16 | Iraq | Repression | Terror War | World

Never has a "liberation" managed to generate so many death mercenaries and contractors being paid up to 5'000 dollars a day with the sole aim of exterminating...and "pacifying".
Never has a country been so openly plundered and pillaged right in front of everyone's eyes and to the utter silence of its spectators...

Something about "Liberation"...

30-04-2007 23:41 | Anti-militarism | Anti-racism | Iraq | World

There is not one person I know who has not been affected and whose life has not been altered, read - forever changed by so much "liberation".

You don't even have to be an Iraqi. This "liberation" has served as a perfect mirror reflecting the moral bankruptcy of some and the resilience of others...

Those who are faithful to Iraq - the concept of it - (now we are talking about concepts since the Reality of what was Iraq is something of the past!), those who are close to Iraq in spirit and mind lose sleep too...

Corporate Media Ignores Durbin’s Admission Iraq Invasion was Predicated on Lies

29-04-2007 16:53 | Analysis | Anti-militarism | Iraq | World

Sworn to secrecy and responsible for the murder of nearly a million Iraqis and three thousand, possibly ten thousand U.S. soldiers, thus making not only Mr. Durbin a war criminal but the whole of Congress. Senators John D. Rockefeller IV and Carl Levin, members of the same intelligence committee as Durbin, are at the head of the war criminal list, right after Bush, Cheney and the neocons, because these “two Democrats said publicly before the war that Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein was intent on pursuing nuclear weapons,” that it to say they had the same information as Durbin.
