16-06-2007 13:24 | Analysis | Anti-militarism | Iraq | World

"In a message on the recent bombing of the shrines of the two revered Shia Imams in the Iraqi town of Samarra, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei blamed the intelligence services of the Zionist regime and the occupation forces in Iraq for the bombing, saying such terrorist acts are meant to intensify sectarian violence in the Muslim world."

The Siege of Baghdad

13-06-2007 22:40 | Anti-militarism | Iraq | Terror War | World

It’s funny, in a sad sick almost perverse sort of way, but it seems the only people who listen to George Bush and take him seriously anymore is the insurgency. Several months after his royal hind ass made his now famous “bring em on” statement the insurgency issued their own proclamation saying in affect, we have brought it on do you have anything else you wish to say to us?

Of Crazies, Neocons and the Enemy Within

13-06-2007 22:26 | Analysis | Iraq | Terror War | World

Beginnings

An all too familiar and ominous echo is reverberating through the American landscape, once more blasted into the airwaves, and our minds, through the Ministry of Propaganda and its merry bunch of sycophants and stenographers. For yet another consecutive year since three monolithic towers were demolished, imploded and systemically brought down onto their own footprints in a catalyzing event unleashing a new American century, Americans are hearing the fiery rhetoric of imminent danger, a cocktail of fear, terror and warmongering fed our enemy-addicted culture, aimed both at stirring conflict with Iran and conditioning our minds into accepting the coming attack on yet another Muslim nation that poses no threat to the mighty Empire.

Bush administration embarks on reckless new tactic in Iraq

13-06-2007 19:20 | Iraq | World

With its much-vaunted “surge” showing no signs of success and American casualties continuing to rise, the US military has begun to arm and equip sections of the Sunni insurgency, supposedly to fight against intransigent layers such as Al Qaeda-linked groups. Weapons, ammunition, cash, fuel and supplies are being provided to selected Sunni militia.

I'm so sick and tired of the "Support Our Troops" mantra I could eat my internal

09-06-2007 21:03 | Analysis | Anti-militarism | Iraq | World

Support our troops. It’s the only rallying cry left. It’s the dirty, shredded little yellow ribbons and tattered flags that used to mean nationalistic pride and now nobody’s really up to replacing them and, since it’s impossible to agree on much of anything about the Iraq invasion, occupation and subsequent unmitigated disaster, we’re all supposed to at least agree to “support our troops.”

If You Think Bush Is Evil Now, Wait Until He Nukes Iran

06-06-2007 22:46 | Analysis | Iraq | Terror War | World

The neocons think that by bombing Iran the US will provoke Iran to arm the Shiite militias in Iraq with armor-piercing rocket propelled grenades and with surface to air missiles and unleash the militias against US troops. These weapons would neutralize US tanks and helicopter gunships and destroy the US military edge, leaving divided and isolated US forces subject to being cut off from supplies and retreat routes. With America on the verge of losing most of its troops in Iraq, the cry would go up to “save the troops” by nuking Iran.

Opposing spy base’s role in Iraq war
The Howard government and the security authorities have gone to extraordinary lengths to suppress any information emerging from the trial about the base or the associated operations of the intelligence agencies. Last year, a judge placed constraining orders on the defendants to prevent them from making any comments about ASIO’s surveillance activities.
