Anarchist base destroyed in dawn raid

The Telegraph via Chuck0 | 01.04.2001 05:12

The Telegraph is reporting the police shutdown of a May Day "training base" with a sensational and inaccurate article.

The instructions for playing May Day Monopoly in the U.K. are available on my website:

Kudos to our comrades in the U.K. who put together such a festive plan for May Day. Let's hope that other working people around the Global North put together similar actions for their local capitalists.

Capitalism? No thanks. We'll burn your fucking banks!

Yeah man I thought it was an April fool at first because the article is so hysterical and contains so many inaccuracies! The Wombles have been one of the key organising groups in the May Day mobilisation, and they're trying to bring a more confrontational approach to demonstrations in a Ya Basta! style, using white overalls and padding as protection from police attacks.

I think what we're seeing here (and in the recent Terrorism Act) is the end of legal methods of protest. I've never been under any illusions that we live in a democracy, but until now the police state tactics used by the US authorities were not widely used in the UK. The state-corporate system is becoming more and more repressive, and it's up to us to deal with it.

Activists should learn a lesson from this: that if we try to play by the rules of the system, the rules are changed. I'm not necessarily saying you should join the ALF or smash up your local McDonald's (although maximum respect to those activists who are brave enough to do that), but we have to accept that the ruling class will use any means necessary to crush resistance movements, so therefore so must we to resist them.

Now let's go whining to Amnesty International and see if they'll do anything about this shit.

Quite an interesting article actually. Although absolutely over-the-top in its reporting style, it described RTS as "peaceful" and attacked the WOMBLES before they've even got together properly on a major demonstration. I guess the propaganda war has already begun against this type of peaceful resistance to state oppression.

Also, thought it was pretty amusing that there were loads of external links to Infoshop.org and other Anarchy archives. Perhaps this type of OTT reporting and subsequent investigation of the links might persuade people to buy a better paper. Don't expect anything from the broadsheets - just remember the article prior to last years Mayday action in the Times, which declared that 'RTS had bunkers full of weapons aroundthe capital'! The Times and Telegraph are simply moutpieces for MI5/6 and the police. Fuck em'.

BTW, I have some resources about Mayday Monopoly on the website.

Media hysteria is nothing new

From the Metro (Scotland), 19.04.00:

"Reclaim The Streets and Class War are terrorists who mobilise on similar lines to soccer casuals. Fanatical, well-funded and armed, they have the ability to bring terror to the streets."

Thanks to Larry O'Hara and Notes From the Borderland for that hilarious quote.
