This pretty well confirms what i observed back in November, that even in Hyde Park, the right to free speech & expression was dead as far as the police were concerned. While the Fuel Tax protesters were doing their best to hold their platform against legal intimidation of every kind, and allowing Greenpeace to address the meeting, the police were breaking up ecological counter-demos.

I shall be attending at Buckingham Palace at 11.00 am On Tuesday so that her Majesty can make me a Lord. There are many other distinguished subjects being honored on the same day at the same time. We have all provided outstanding service to the Community. Although I myself am Irish I am often described as a "West Brit". This is a derogatory term in Irish Republican circles but I am proud to be one.
Others to be honored are executives of large corporations and members of the Armed Forces.

I trust that you will all agree that this investiture is completely apolitical and make no attempt to disrupt the most important day in our lives.

(Why don't they concentrate on the violent minorities like the neo-Nazis' who showed up during the end of last years protest?). Civil liberties groups are outraged by ridiculous sentiments like this and as a non-violent prospective protester it feels like they are goading me.

I was sad to see these ill informed remarks from someone who is either not aware that O'Brien is an much criticised outsider due to his long standing criticism of Green Nazis, aka PIRA, Continuity and Real IRA.

His thinking on the Irish situation can be seen to have been ahead of its time especially his concept of a European regional political system, into which competing national interests can be diluted. This is what in fact has happened as the Republic received large amounts of EU monies to help in the building of the Irish IT sector resulting in the Celtic Tiger of today.

He is a popular respected writer across the world except in those circles, thankfully the minority these days, that still think the bombing of innocent Irish, British and foreign tourists is a legitimate way to further ones cause.

We Irish have a much more sanguine approach to the assertion that violence always leads to progress. Our bitter experience is that in the long term justice can only be delivered for ALL through peaceful means, hence my support for George Monbiots approach to May Day.

People must remember that the Tricolour has three colours and that we hear far too much about the Orange and the Green. I would like more Irish to pay attention to the promise held out by the White, - peace, justice and reconciliation.

One thing to realize with "the Cruiser" is that he used to be an anti-partitionist. Now he's a pro-partitionist. If we follow him this time, do we have to retrace our steps again?
