Supplies of Vitamin B1 Desperetely needed in Turkey

People Not Profit, Liverpool England | 25.05.2001 22:12

The Situation for the hunger strikers is getting worse. The Turkish government are refusing vitamin B1 to those coming off - which means serious brain damage.

Hello Folks
If anyone has been following the hunger strike in Turkey - well things are getting quite desperate. They are now urgently requesting suppilies of Vitamin B1. People are being kept from being brain damaged by it - and the Turkish government are refusing to give it to people coming off the hunger strike. I don't know if anyone can help with this or knows anyone who can help with this. ALso if people can circulate this info. I've attached a People Not Profit statement with addresses and info.
If anyone can show support contact:  ikm_london@yahoo.com
Cheers
Dazza PNP, Liverpool

TURKISH POLITICAL PRISONERS STILL DYING.

URGENT ACTION NEEDED.

People Not Profit have been reporting locally on the hunger strike going on inside and outside of Turkish prisons. This hunger strike has been taking place to protest against Turkish political prisoners being forced out of the dormitory type cells into isolation ‘coffin’cells, to separate the political prisoners from each other, this isolation means the Turkish Authorities can commit more brutality and murder against their opponents. The situation was intensified by police raids in December against inmates on hunger strike in which 28 were murdered. Since then both the repression and violence has escalated, with inmates being beaten every day. Out of the hundreds taking the desperate measure of hunger strike, as we report this, 22 have so far died. Both the Turkish media and the British and European media have hardly covered this story, so groups like ours and our Turkish and Kurdish friends need to highlight these atrocities. We know that the Turkish Extreme right-wing government are attempting to join the EU, and that they are very sensitive to International exposure; this is where you and we come in. Below is the phone and fax number of the Turkish Embassy, in London - we are asking people to contact them, with your questions and complaints:

TURKISH EMBASSY (England)
Tel: 020 7393 0202

Fax: 020 7393 0066

HEALTH AID NEEDED URGENTLY AFTER HUNGER STRIKE

The Turkish government are also refusing to supply those people who wish to come off the hunger strike with vitamin B1, this means those coming off – due to the length of their hunger strike will be permanently brain damaged. Comrades in Turkey are asking for supplies of B1. It is legal for people to enter Turkey with these supplies. They are also asking for Academics, Lawyers, Criminologists, Politicians and Medical doctors to use their influence to put pressure on the Turkish government. If you can help in anyway with this or wish to show your solidarity contact.
