When is a march not a march?
03.06.2001 11:53
The aim was to march from the CPS in Victoria to the Canadian High Commission to draw parallels between the imprisonment of people in Quebec and on Mayday. The cops had other ideas and had turned up in force. We were prevented from marching as: 1. We had not asked for permission 6 days in advance and 2. It was the trooping of the colour (a pointless royal pageant). The irony of this response to a march about state repression was not lost on us. So we decided to walk together. Banners had to be put away, but otherwise this closely resembled a march, complete with massive police escort. At one point a cop nearly lost it, claiming we were "taking the piss" by dictating the route! When we arrived there were yet more cops! There were no arrests and we made our point, but we need to increase our solidarity with those arrested on actions.

probably replaced the vatican with www, in which case
delete www and type in vatican.
You should get a picture of an indonesian policeman
'laying into' a protester with a weapon of some description.
