Rout of the small farm

bob perkins | 07.08.2001 21:54

Lord Haskins has been chosen to spearhead the assault of the agro-industrialists.

The website link is the Guardian's special report on "What's wrong with our food?"

Real info for a real protest movement?

08.08.2001 12:13

What an article! How many people do you know who have exposed as much shite as people like Monbiot, S.George, Pilger, Palast and so many other unsung heroes of the anti (no, fuck the 'anti-' - let's start using 'pro-' instead, hmm? Like the Pro-Social Globalisation Movement or just the World Democracy Movement?) gobbleisation movement?

Why are these reporters being villified when they offer us so much meat to chew on? Is honesty of delivery not to be respected? How many articles do you see on all the indy sites moaning on and on and on about the perfidy of the mainstream press? Yeah, plenty! Yet here we have honest, consistent reporting of what's really wrong behind the scenes, yet people go moaning on and on and on about these people's desire to tell it like it is.

So much for unity - these reporters are one of our very best 'weapons' if we did but think about it a little more deeply than the kneejerk reaction of 'oh, they don't want violence so fuck 'em' mob. Through their integrity they shine beacons on very shitty places and people - either respect them for what they do for all of us or DO BETTER YOURSELVES!

How many of us can write this effectively?

As for the author of this piece, you don't have to like the guy but you'd be crazy not to listen to him! Check out:-

The Guardian

Last time I made a comment like yours here, the inmates ticked me off. George Monbiot is indeed an excellent writer, and long may he write for the Guardian. It is a shame there seems to be few other suitable places other than his excellent website.

pension plan farms

09.08.2001 19:39

forgeting the naive monbiot for a minute, it was an excellent article that bob perkins wrote. a few more thoughts:
i think that haskins/blair want these massive ranch style farms to be answerable to know one, apart from their share holders and pension investors. These people will want to see a profit from their 'hard working' investments and what better profit than those acquired through GM crops. Farmers have brought alot of their present predicaments on themselves ie. right wing reactionary thought systems, lap dogs of the ruling class etc. but when it comes to the environment we all stand to lose, all except northan foods and share holders.
This will happen in the next few years and if we are not careful we will be able to visit even less of the countryside than we do now.
yours in unity
