MAYDAY MONOPOLY APPEAL FOR WITNESSES

MAYDAY MONOPOLY APPEAL FOR WITNESSES
The solicitors representing John Lawrie, who is accused of affray and will go to prison if convicted, have asked us to appeal for witnesses. The police officers accuse him of throwing a bottle towards police lines at the corner of Regent Street/Oxford Circus outside the Nike Building. He is also accused of inciting others to throw missiles. The evidence comes entirely from two police officers. They allege that this behaviour occurred between 4pm and 7pm. They are not more specific than this. John completely denies throwing any bottles or other missiles at the police. He also denies inciting anybody else to do so. It is vitally important that we find independent witnesses who can support his account of events.
John was standing on the roof of a ladies toilet by the entrance to the underground at Oxford Circus. There is a small railing around the area and a number of people were also standing there. John is 55 years of age, 5ft 3” or 5ft 4” tall and was wearing a light blue fleece top coat over a black fleece with grey lining around the neck, a black woolly hat, a t-shirt, black tracksuit bottoms and a pair of black boots. He also had a black plastic horn approximately 12” long which he blew on a number of occasions. This last item may jog the memory of anybody who was in the vicinity at the time and could comment about John’s behaviour in particular and the crowd in general. The police claim that during these times, the mood of the crowd was aggressive, with a number of missiles being thrown at sporadic intervals towards the police. The police claim that they had a clear view of John doing this but this seems unlikely due to the density of the crowd around him. Any independent witness testimony, photographs and videos of the area in which John was standing during these times would be extremely helpful.
