Challenge Gothenburg Neo- Fascist Trials!

I agree that the Gothenburg Trials were prejudicial; outcomes were predetermined, defendents did not get
fair hearings.

Swedish judiciary has come under the thumb of economic fascism that much is clear.

Paul Robinson in Prison

14.08.2001 20:46

I am Paul's UNISON rep at UCL Branch and I visited him on Monday August 13th in the Remand Centre in Gothenberg. He is fine and he's coping very well. He has his own cell (which he prefers) but he's allowed to mix with other prisoners on the same floor. The Remand Centre is on the 7th and 8th floors of the Police Building and there are about sixty prisoners there all told. He thanks everyone for their letters and says to keep them coming. He would also welcome visitors. The person to contact at the Remand Centre to arrange meetings is Bjorn Lundin and his number is 0046 31 731 1240.

Paul is in the current issue of Private Eye (p.4) along with Oliver Thomas, the UCL Branch member who had his eye rammed deep into his skull by a police baton in Genoa and spent ten days in hospital in Turin where he had laser surgery.

Paul knows all that has been going on in Genoa and he believes that he is better off than Oliver and than Richard Moth and the others who were caught in the Diaz school. I gave Paul Richard's message of support and he was really touched by it.

Paul's appeal will be heard on September 12th. In Sweden there is an automatic right to two trials. The grounds for the appeal are 1) he should have been found not guilty because he was not part of the crowd; 2) his action in throwing stones was one of frustration and not sympathy; 3) there is also the legal argument of the 'punishment value'. The court said that there were stones thrown from many directions therefore the crowd was tried as one. Video evidence shown in court does not support the 'stones from many directions' case. Paul's lawyer, who I saw on the morning of the 13th, gave me the information contained in this paragraph.

At his original trial the judge shared the bench with three local politicians all of whom (including the judge) live in Gothenberg. So does the prosecutor. The trial could not have been fair. Three judges will decide the outcome of the appeal and they will make their judgement known within two weeks after the hearing.

If you would like to make your views on this case known to the Minister for Justice in Sweden his name is Thomas Bodstroem, his fax number is 0046 31 731 1240; the e-mail address of the Ministry is  registration@justice.ministry.se
