Bin Laden cant lose (english)
by  proffr1@nospambutfuckmicrosoft.com 2:36am Sun Sep 16 '01 (Modified on 4:12am Sun Sep 16 '01)

Kill him and he's an instant martyr.
Bomb a wasteland and demonstrate impotent rage?
He will dine out on that.

Killing him wont be easy either. There will be a high price there.Remember the Iran hostage rescue?
How many children will be named osama after this?
There are a lot of saddams that will be battle ready soon.
Is the reward still 5 $mill?Couldnt an official operation soft drill raise 10 times that?
Talk of war is 'over the top'and seems designed to frighten and intimidate.Yet the age of bullies is coming to an end.Allies are getting cold feet already and little wonder.Weapons of mass destruction are in the hands of small groups already. The next attack on america could easily 'take out' a city.
No one denies that yet the baying for blood goes on.The US turned its back on several critical treaties that would have bound its fate up with the majority of the worlds desires for peaceful progress. It still wants to spend an obscene amount on a redundant missile shield.I come from an anarchist position that recognises the legitimicy of violence in politics IF you put your life on the line as well. Its not a tenuous link between 5000 arab lives and the same of 'ours'(90 odd aussis are missing)these men murdered yes,but they also died. This is the natural selection of asymetric war.As a tactical consideration it took some heat off the FARC.
Dont forget the US finances genocide in columbia as well as palistine. If your child asks "why do they hate us so much".I cant speak for fellow 'terrorists' but heres my top 10.
10 things I hate about you.
vietnam
palistine
Indonesia
chile
elsalvadore
guatamala
nicaragua
grenada
east timor
australia
Thats by no means a comprehensive list. The drug war, prohibition 2 has cost countles lives.
Im at war with the amerikkkan state, not the majority of the people there that are so illinformed.I have family and friends there and most activists in the movement have worked hard to try and get the US to WAKE UP!Its your world under attack and we're on the razors edge.I call on all groups in the past that have attacked amerikkka to consider joining for a fresh strike in unison OR to take turns and 'tag team' uncle sam to the mat.The last imperialist empire must be destroyed.Later for the taliban.

right on Aussie comrade! (english)
by jacob richter 4:12am Sun Sep 16 '01

Right on! I like the top 10. Killing people who are not directly involved is murder plain and simple but my country (Amerikkka) has made it difficult for me to mourn for them because most of them never mourned for the people killed with their vote and taxes. 66% of Amerikkkans support violent retaliation even if it means killing innocents (and no doubt it will), meaning, in my mind, that only 1/3 of those killed in the WTC and planes were innocent (willful ignorance + privilege = complicity). As far as Pentagon is concerned, if you work there, you are complicit in the U$'s crimes. My aunt used to work there, and I'd hate to lose her, but she got paid fat cash to do budget crunching for those fuckers, and she never did a thing to counteract the aid she gave to humanity's #1 enemy. On to revolution!

Worlds gone crazy

17.09.2001 01:32

The world has gone crazy. 5000 businessmen and military personnel die and suddenly we are at war. With, whom? In what way? With a prime suspect who no one has any proof of guilt and who himself denies responsibility. More people die each day from starvation or bad water as a result of IMF loans yet were are all the three minute silences for them. Over 1.5 million children have died in Iraq as a direct result of the American imposed embargo. Which CNN viewer knows their suffering, much longer and much more painful?
It is sickening watching countries who poured vitriol on the U.S. in their daily papers for years, suddenly Kowtowing to it’s demands and sending in messages of condolences. It is disgusting watching the press of the supposedly “free and civilised” world printing such obvious propaganda and attempting to rile masses to whatever cause the Whitehouse may choose. Where are those questions like “why did this happen”? Why is the press simply Muslim bashing? Where’s all the reflection that’s supposed to happen at a time like this? Why is no one noticing what’s happening in Palestine?
Someone needs some sense right now. S.M.

Typical Stupid Aussies!!!

You almost sound intelligent.... that is until I read "recognises".... You stupid "bloke"! It's spelled "recognizes". Learn it before you preach it dumb ass.

As for "Amerikkka"... I travel to Indonesia regularly on surf trips. The most ignorant, disrespectful, loud-mouth, beer-guzzl'n jerks are all AUSSIES!! They're hated in Indo! Everyone knows this.

Talking World War Three Blues

17.09.2001 11:21

I don't know too much about the world, I'm young, but this situation, this situation..makes me realise a bit, perhaps I was a bit naive. Okay, the IMF, the World Bank, the WTO. Corporate globalisation. Neoliberalism. War. The Arms Trade. Patriarchy. The New World Order. THEIR media. Tools of repression, I've tried to educate myself. I haven't seen anything like this before-I'm one of Thatcher's kids.
What I find truly disturbing is the way human tragedy is being twisted for political ends. Lack of perspective, lack of understanding. Real people dying, dying, dying. The hypocrisy displayed is at such a level I can't take it anymore and I rely on indymedia for a little shelter. Tony Blair isn't really talking about the human tragedy, the corporate media has to respond accordingly. Humanising the west and dehumanising the `rogue states'. Why are the public being denied such vital information about such a situation that says it involves us civilians? Are we responsible for the terrible policies of western governments?
Moral questions arise-a gift for the far right, the oxymoronic rulers, the double standards.
``You put your bombers in,
You put your conscience out,
You take the human being and you twist it all about.''
(Adrian Mitchell)

This tragedy is a true revelation to me about the priorities and values of the elites. The world is absurd and I'm alienated and saddened by the past week's events. The people are being told sick, sick lies.
However, news of peace protesters still makes me cling on for dear life to hope and the potential of good in humanity.

By the way, the labour party conference at the end of September is still happening right, or does nobody know yet?

I rebel, therefore WE exist.

Dove?

typical racist bullshit

17.09.2001 13:26

Hey Carlo, surfer-dude...
Interesting comments! Not only do you appear racist (re: all Australians...) but typically US-centric too. outside cultural-steamroller USA, the rest of the English-speaking world spells recognise with an "s", not a "z". who's stupid now?

And good on you, going to Indonesia and giving away your filthy dollars to another great regime...surf's up!

RE: Typical Stupid Aussies!!!

Hello! Wake up and read your dictionary. The common spelling of "recognises" in British English is exactly how I spelt it. Lets not get all turdy and arrogant now when we don't know what we are talking about.

Respect to Mr. Malik & co

17.09.2001 16:59

Been a long time since I had the chance to go online to indymedia, as I have no regular access to a computer at this time. (I am currently separated from wife and, hence, computer.)
Thanks for all your comments here. Good to see a diversity of opinion outside of the red-hot media nerve centres owned by CNN, ABC, et al. Aside from the ridiculous petty jabs (that fail to recognise, -ze, -se the real tensions) your comments all ring true.
I am what can be described as a starving freelance journalist in Vancouver, Canada, which means I have a full-time "day" job. Attempts to get into local print media have not been hugely successful of late, but I haven't given up and at least my credentials (Certificate in Journalism from Vancouver, B.C.-based Langara College) stand me in good stead when I read the coverage of the WTC bombings in NYC.
As a writer who covered the November 30 Seattle WTO protest in depth (I was there, unlike other Vancouver RW journalists who spouted on about the protestors etc etc), I am familiar with this pattern of whipping up a frenzy amid the masses. Judgements become clouded.
The media are, to be frank, failing us as much as G8 governments and are wholly complicit in the U.S. government's dirty work.
Newspapers (NY Post, Vancouver Sun, Calgary Herald, Telegraph etc) are all part of media conglomerates. They are all built around huge advertising revenues and rigid hierarchies-of-power. I experienced this first-hand in Canada. In the UK, we see this even more clearly, with Rupert Murdoch's insidious influence on what the people see and "believe."
Media moguls - Eisner, Murdoch, Conrad Black, Ted Turner - should not be expected to have a moral care in the world here, so why so much attention to what we see in their media?
The New York bombing was a tragedy, yes, and no small one. However, for U.S. President George W. Bush to say it is "democracy undermined" is like the pot calling the kettle black.
Anyone notice how he makes these comments completely unchecked? Notice the lack of journalistic questioning here? (Vancouver Sun's David Beers and Georgia Straight's Charlie Smith are two exceptions here in Vancouver. They at least tried to encourage debate in two recent stories.)
Mr. Malik is right. What about the Iraq sanctions? Iraq is a ruined nation, with a tyrant still at the helm. Sanctions have killed millions. Where is the sentiment for the death here and why the need for out and out retaliation before a culprit has been proven 100% guilty?
Thank you all for your valuable comments. Our voices all need to be heard, as there will be tough days ahead.

doesn't even compare

17.09.2001 17:58

The Iraqis are dying because their government is using them as pawns to try and push the Western World around. Have you really done any reading into what Iraq would have to do to have all embargoes lifted? You would be surprised how easy it would be. The embargoes of iraq are costing the entire western world lots of money, Americans know this, so Bush would probably prefer to have it end. The alternative would make Americans even more unhappy, however, and that is allowing Hussein to keep his biological weapons nuclear weapons, etc... Besides, in an ongoing battle with Iraq, why should the US be forced to play by a different set of rules? If Iraq is going to use its own people as tests for the biological weapons (they have admitted to as much) can you really blame their deaths on some embargoes? Your revolution is groing a touch too chic and needs to rebase itself in reality. There is quite a bit to revolt for/against, but you missed the boat on this one.
