nottingham Peace Demo

Karl | 24.09.2001 08:04

Concerned individuals gathered in nottingham's market square on Saturday to protest against the possible war.

Between 200 - 300 people turned out in Nottingham on Saturday to stand shoulder to shoulder for peace and justice. The response from most of the public was good with lots of people wanting to sign the petitions that were going around. Lots of people had candles and some with plackards saying 'justice not blind vengence' and ' stand shoulder to shoulder for peace and justice'. It was good to see such a big turnout considering there was only a days notice.

Executive Orders

Based on clear evidence, that is classified, so no-one can ever see it, more than 27 organisations will be added to a list of NGO’s whose financial assets are frozen.

Foreign terrorist tracking systems will punish those (including individuals) who finance the chosen groups.

The ‘civilized’ G8 and the UN will enforce it, by “starving them out.”

To defeat terrorism, will require dicipline of the American people and a century of conflict between civilizations of different faiths.

Great to see my old stomping ground cares enough to gather in Market Square. There was a gathering in my new stomping ground (Vancouver, Canada) yesterday (Sunday), which attracted many parties and groups and citizens in general to protest a U.S.-led military strike.
Keep it up in the East Midlands!
Peace.

Nottingham Vigil

25.09.2001 14:50

I lived for many years in Nottingham during the 80's and 90's and Nottingham is a great and caring city. A vigil at Whitehall, London, was also a success. Difficult to estimate numbers but circa 3000. If Bush continues in his madness, without looking at the underlying causes of social upheaval, injustice and inequality, and without considering some more pragmatic solutions that do not for once involve "firepower", then we should all be prepared to go out on the streets again. There is a march in London on 13th October - meet Hyde Park (Marble Arch end) at 12 noon. By spreading a bit of friendship and love amongst us, one and all, and by making that simple jump away from the infantilism that has been running this world since the Nazis (and is probably related to them...), it should be quite easy to put down the guns and negotiate a little more equality throughout the world. We surely have enough great minds on this planet to start some true progressive thinking in that direction. The true power of human capability that would then be unleashed would be formidable.

Glad to hear something was done locally - but how can we get to hear about these things? I'd have loved to come down last weekend but knew nothing about it. Any ideas of how these things can be communicated around the city?

Doncaster meets

01.10.2001 06:05

I am in Doncaster and would like to know of any gatherings or organisations that I may be able to get to. It would be good to join something in South Yorkshire, but anything within public transport travelling distance would be useful. Can you let me know?

Yours in Peace
