ITALIAN GOVERNMENT GIVES INDIRECT HELP TO TERRORISM

Nick Gervasio | 16.10.2001 10:23

Another mistake for italian prime minister

The Italian prime minister, Silvio Berlusconi, yesterday visited the US President George W. Bush, offering him "moral and material help" in the fight against terrorism.Unfortunately, last week the Italian government voted a law that is going to turn out as nothing but an indirect help for terrorism, making it very easy to wash dirty money in Italy. A similar law goes in the opposite direction in respect to what the rest of the world is trying to do: cut off the stream of money that gives terror its power. So why did they do it? Silvio Berlusconi is involved, along with other members of the party in power, Forza Italia, in many trials for corruption and other crimes related to the managing of his huge financial kingdom. This particular law makes it almost impossible for judges to use rogatory letters to obtain information from other countries, while sometimes communications from banks abroad are the only way to prove that some dirty money really exists. Needless to be say, evidences against members of Forza Italia already on trial will be lost forever. The saddest thing is that together with Silvio Berlusconi and his friends many others will also be able to escape justice with the same legal weapon: terrorists, members of the Mafia, drug dealers.
Many voices were raised against this selfish and dangerous act, from liberal areas (The Economist) to the angry left wing Italian opposition, but nothing changed. Another big mistake for prime minister Berlusconi, after the speech about the superiority of the occidental culture in respect to Islam that just a few days ago risked to ruin weeks of diplomatic efforts to create a global alliance against terror.

Don't be fooled the UK is just as bad.

yeah good comment, Berlusconi is a symbol of crooked governments, Italy is the capital of organized crime.
They seem to have a certain feel for it.
But don't be fooled the City of London is a massive laundering operation and the Italian mafia is very well established in the most select parts of the west end.
UK based corporates are operating loads of scams, involving crime syndicates and monies from clandestine operations, Italian right wing terrorists were allowed to 'hide out' in London for years while they organized fund raising operations which have now developed into profitable companies and are now being used to pay for the advance of the extreme right into Italian politix. (or something like that).

All the big banks are up for it , "a couple of wheel barrow fulls of used notes from various countries certainly sir right this way "...

There's Terror and there's defence of Freedom

One of these terrorists living in the UK is Roberto "Bob" Fiore, fascist, condemned in Italy for committing the horrible bombing of Bologna's central railway station in August 1980: 85 dead, several hundred wounded. "Anarchists" should be blamed for this crime that made part of the "strategy of tension", which plagued Italy from the late sixties for over a dozend years. Involved this strategy had been fascist groups, secret services, amongst them the CIA, the terror network "Gladio", and a secret lodge called P2 ("Propaganda Due") with very honorable members, including the current prime minister of Italy - you guessed it: Mr. Silvio Berlusconi.

Mr. "Bob" Fiore is alive and well in the UK, running a "travel agency" called "Easy London" and "Meeting Point", which is known to be a meeting point of european fascists and nazi-skins. He has not been extradicted. Maybe because the Italien governments since then haven't applied enough pressure? Why? Maybe because he's an agent of MI6 since 1980?

Makes me think about the current "War on Terrorism"

I'm an Italian who's been livivn in NewYork about ten years
and I really hope somebody murders mr. Silvio as soon as possible before he drags to war the vast majority of Italians
(who actually hate him) while profiting from it and giving
Italy an horrible,horrible name....We don't need another
Mussolini!

...a certaing feel...

Dear Luther Blisset,

Just a friendly warning. It is unwise to say that "Italy is the capital of organized crime. They seem to have a certain feel to it."

The first victims of Berlusconi's corruption and oppression are Italian people. Let's not spread around racist stereotypes, not even mild racist stereotypes, on Indymedia.

Love and Power.

1) sorry Giorgio, I meant to say that most people in say UK consider, Italy to be the capital of organized crime.
and shouldn't have added the "they have a certain feel for it" no offence meant to Italians in general.

2) Wu Ming, is Fiore still living in the UK ???
I thought he'd moved back to Italy..
