As part of the call for decentralised actions against the WTO meetings in Doha, Qatar. A collective in
Guildford are doing outreach in there local community about the effects of capitalist globalisation.

Saturday 10th November
Meet 1pm
Guildford main station
Bring drums, flags, bikes, propaganda, banners,
friends and families!

The WTO meeting
The World Trade Organisation meeting taking place
in Doha, Qatar 9th-13th November will have a
direct impact on the lives of everyone on this
planet today and those yet to be born for decades
to come. The developed nations - Europe, Japan,
USA, Japan etc - will try to force the developing
world into accepting increased “free trade”, with
the menace of B52s and cruise missiles for anyone
who rejects the capitalist consensus. The message
is: “Do what we say or we’ll bomb your kids”.
That’s politics today.

The choice
The choice for the poorest countries’ delegates is a
simple one: allow western multinational companies
to buy up their public services - water, health care,
education - to run for their own profit, or be
refused desperately-needed aid. The west
demands that the developing world open their
markets to western products and in the same
breadth refuses to stop dumping agricultural
exports on them that impoverish the local
producers. The UK government aid agency has
recently told Ghana to increase water charges in
preparation for its privatisation - it’ll be bought by
major western utilities companies - or there will be
no aid or debt relief. Under the WTO policies,
companies like Nike and Gap use sweatshop labour
across the developing world to maximise their
profits, even if that means that their workers are
sacked, beaten or shot for daring to ask for decent
working conditions. That’s capitalism.

What is this to do with me?
Don’t think this is only about people living far
away. In the UK, privatisation under the Labour
government is increasing, with hospitals, trains,
public utilities, even air traffic control all being sold
off to the highest bidder so they can be run for fat-
cat profit. And despite being told for over twenty
years that privatisation encourages efficiency and
improved service levels, we see our under-staffed
hospitals struggling with equipment that was
outdated in 1980, our decrepit schools with no
books, social housing crumbling as yuppie flats rise
next to them, our transport network crashing to a
twisted halt as inept bosses are sacked with multi-
million pound pensions.

Who’s World? Our World!
Millions around the world have been taking matters
into their own hands, confronting capitalism and its
effects. Water privatisation in Bolivia was
overthrown by the poorest people, despite bullets
and bombs from their own state. The last attempt
at a WTO meeting - in Seattle, USA in 1999 - was
stopped by tens of thousands of ordinary people
standing together and fighting back.

This time around, the WTO thought they could
avoid trouble by having the meeting in Qatar, a
place where demonstrators are routinely shot. But
just because you can’t get to Qatar, that doesn’t
mean you can’t make your voices heard. Actions,
demonstrations, pickets and occupations are taking
place across the world. Join in your local action
see www.agp.org for a list of actions in your area.

The fight against capitalism is the real war on
terrorism!
