100 000 on Sunday????

noel | 13.11.2001 16:43

Preparations for Sundays Stop the War demonstration continue let's make it the biggest UK protest in years...

150,000 in Rome last Saturday - now it's our turn!

Support and mobilisation for Sundays demo continue apace. There are 45 coaches coming so far from Birmingham. Coventry has 9 so far, even a place like Slough has 4 coaches booked.

Meanwhile rallies and meetings continue to break records for attendence, last night 500 came to a StW rally in Sheffield, 200 in Coventry & 180 in Brixton, amongst many more.

Tell EVERYONE you know and make sure they bring people to. Photocopying leaflets yesterday in a shop run by an Iranian who told me that his group had 30 people on the last demo, now they are bringing 150!

If everyone does this it will big the biggest demo for years and scare the living daylights out of bomber Blair and the warmongers in our government.

Also for Londoners, a group of us are going to blockade Camden High Street this Saturday at 2pm, bring everyone you can and let's cause a commotion!!! Meet outside the tube.

STOP THE WAR demonstrate 18th November Hyde PARK 12PM

what kind of commotion? Is this a reclaim the streets party or what? how are passers by/irate motorists etc going to know if it's against the war?

meanwhile, if the northern alliance have got their wicked way in kabul and the taliban are fleeing even kandahar, does that mean the bombers might have stopped bombing by sunday and be up to something different - in which case what exactly is our message? Might have to broaden it to say things like stop the self-interested undemocratic interference in other people's countries.. not so snappy!

Let's make it the biggest demo in our history. It could be our last chance before protest becomes terrorism, which is punishable with internment without trial, without release, without mercy.

I think you'll find the war isn't over, the Taliban are still in the South and parents have lost their children ot vice versa, so the war is not over for them.

The so called original reason for attacking Afghanistan was to stop terrorism by initially getting Osama Bin Laden and the Al Quieda network. Firstly they are still to provide evidence he did it and secondly if he did then he still not been caught. The Al Quieda network made illegal before Setember the 11th are still in effect. All countries harbouring terrorists are still to be targetted and our basic human rights are rapidly being removed.

The bombing has stopped for a brief while but not as yet confirmed as being stopped for good. The war an excuse in the first place for gaining stability in the region for oil is becoming more exposed as such. Terrorists are still at large in the US and so a war in my humble view is still very much in existance.

Fell free to do nothing and watch the TV but I will not stop until the war on humanity is brought to an end.

War over?

13.11.2001 20:30

Wake up you idiots!

13.11.2001 20:53

The Taliban are evil.

So is OBL.

What the fuck are you protesting about?

Do you approve of the persecution of women? Did you cheer the destruction of the Buddha statues? Do you support the Jew-hating terrorists of Al Quaida?

You are destroying the Left politically by your bullshite kneejerk anti-American crap!

Wake up for Christs sake!

commonsense

No, you wake up

13.11.2001 22:34

No, I think it's you that needs to wake up. Of course I oppose OBL and the Taleban, in fact I went on two anti-Taleban demos last year when most people in this country didn't even know they existed (that was before everyone suddenly became an expert on Afghanistan). HOwever, I am also against starving millions of people to death by inaction, I am also against bombing innocent civilians, whether Afghan or American, and I am also against retribution without evidence.

Examine the facts.

common sense or no sense?

13.11.2001 22:42

The Taliban are evil.
Yes, but so are a lot of other regimes in the world, most of which have been installed as agents of the West, usually by America. And If they’ve really that bad why did the good old US of A support them along with Saudi Arabia (who are guilty of all the human rights abuses the Taliban are) and Pakistan in 1995 and 1996? Could it be something to do with the fact that Unocal (of California) and Delta Oil of (Saudi) signed a contract to build a pipeline through Afghanistan to exploit Turkmenistan oil and gas reserves in October 1995? Incidentally Unocal welcomed the fall of Kabul to the Taliban in September 1996 as “positive development” and US State Department indicated its willingness to restore diplomatic relations. A development that was in part blocked by feminists, radicals, peace and human rights campaigners etc., you know the sort of people who will be protesting on Sunday...

So is OBL.
Personalities and individuals are irrelevant, OBL is the symptom, not the disease, fundamental injustices bread fundamentalists. How long do you think a democratic government in a country such as Saudi Arabia, that actually acted in the interest of its peoples instead of the West, would last before the CIA undermined it? However like the ‘bogyman’ General Noriega before him OBL is a loyal and trusted friend of the CIA who has outlived his usefulness and must now be disposed of.

What the fuck are you protesting about?
Me, personally?
The richest nations on earth turning the full might of their military power on one of the poorest. Irrespective of what ultimately happens to the Taliban and al Qaeda does anyone seriously believe this war will reduce the terrorist threat? Using indiscriminate weapons of mass destruction (cluster bombs and ‘Daisy cutters’), waging radiological warfare (with DU weapons) on unborn generations as in Iraq, in the midst of a humanitarian crisis, and destroying what little civil infrastructure there is, will not address the underlying injustices on which terrorism feeds. It will only serve to intensify the anger, hatred and resentment and secure a steady supply of new recruits eager and willing to avenge.

Do you approve of the persecution of women?
No
Did you cheer the destruction of the Buddha statues?
No
Do you support the Jew-hating terrorists of Al Quaida?
No
Nor do I support the Palestinian hating Zionists, or countless other governments and movements that seek to suppress other peoples like the genocidal military dictatorship in Burma, a country Unocal has no problems operating in...

Wake up for Christs sake!
On 11th September 24,000 people died of hunger, 6,020 children were killed by diarrhoea and 2,700 children died of measles and have done every day since. 1 billion live on less than a $1 a day, another 2 billion on less than $2 a day (that’s half of humanity) while the richest 5% have 80% the worlds wealth. These are the real issues, social justice is a prerequisite of peace and security and no amount of military hardware will change that fact...

saturday

14.11.2001 00:04

The main groups and individuals involved on Saturday will be amongst others, Camden Stop the War, UCL stw, SOAS stw and local people, but everyone's welcome the more the...well you know

z, the way we'll get people to know it's an STW thing is by having banners and posters, amazing hey ;-)

the key thing stopping people coming on Sunday is that they don't know about it, that's why we want to do something in camden, largest market in Western europe, highest concentration of people etc....

and like the others have said, if you believe the war is over you really are naive, US imperialism is not giving up just yet, the northern alliance so the people of afganistan are not in the clear just yet- and to 'commonsense' if you're so right, why did the US government create the taliban and give it $43 million this easter???

This is not anti-american, it is anti-imperialism there is a difference

rip for the students shot in Colombia on the anti-war demo
