Papal Chappie apologizes for perverts and child abusers in the church

Pope sends first e-mail apology

The Pope was unable to travel to Oceania Pope John Paul II has sent an apology by e-mail for a string of injustices, including sexual abuse, committed by Roman Catholic clergy in Oceania.

The 81-year-old pontiff transmitted the message, his first virtual apology, in a recent string of statements of contrition, from a laptop in the Vatican's frescoed Clementine Hall on Wednesday.
Reporting on a Synod meeting held in 1998, the Pope wrote that bishops from the region "apologised unreservedly" for the "shameful injustices done to indigenous peoples" in Australia, New Zealand and the islands of the South Pacific.

"The Church expresses deep regret and asks forgiveness where her children have been or still are party to these wrongs," the document said.
The report singled out the "stolen generation" of at least 30,000 Aboriginal children forcibly separated from their parents in a church-backed government attempt to
educate them and assimilate them into white culture.

Sexual abuse

His message also addressed the issue of sexual abuse: "In certain parts of Oceania, sexual abuse by some clergy... has caused great suffering and spiritual harm to the victims," the document acknowledged.
The Pope gave no details of the cases he was referring to, but internal Vatican reports
documenting instances where priests and missionaries had forced nuns to have sex with them - and even to have abortions afterwards - have come to light in recent years.

"Sexual abuse within the Church is a profound contradiction of the teaching and witness of Jesus Christ.

"The synod fathers wished to apologise unreservedly to the victims for the pain and disillusionment caused to them," the pontiff wrote.

Jews and Orthodox

This is just the latest in a series of papal apologies for the sins of the Roman Catholic church. Last month, Pope John Paul II apologised to China for the errors of missionaries in colonial times. On controversial visits to both the Ukraine and Greece earlier this year, he asked Orthodox Christians' forgiveness for wrongs committed against them by
Roman Catholics.

And in a trip to Israel last year, he publicly asked God's forgiveness for the sins of Roman Catholics through the ages, including wrongs inflicted on Jews, women and minorities. However, the Pope stopped short of travelling to the other side of the world to deliver this message in person. "I would have wished to visit Oceania once again," he said, "but it was not to be."

The Pontiff has a lot of apologising to do. He carries a crooked crucifix and flaunted an inverted Satanic Cross at the Sermon on the Mount.

what is with you guys? at least theyre apologizing. im irish and ive never known an even an average englishman on the street to have even the slightest inkling that a feeling of remors might possibly be vauely appropriate for english treatment in Ireland, even up to the present day. I dont think england will ever apologize for most of the foolishness it has been behind over the years, the same goes for the US, and about a million other org's out there, at least these guys are making a half step in the right direction and all they get is grief for it.

how nice to see both sides represented on IMC uk.
our man in Ireland sticking up for the catholic church.
Of course we should gratefully accept the popes apology and forget about the millions of crimes committed through the ages.against ordinary people The Church has always been on he side of fat wealthy land owners and the position has not changed, in fact it is getting worse, not to mention the churches favourite son , the fucking mafia.
I wonder if perhaps we might get a comment from south america
where millions were killed maimed, worked to death, all in the name of the good lord. but perhaps your right the brits didn't apologize for all the pain and suffering they caused in Ireland, and besides what if a few little boys get it up the arsehole in the name of God.... what are you a fucking priest or sumting simla ????

Evil Judgers

16.08.2003 01:11

Who do you guys think you are, judging others? Have you all never made a mistake ever? Then stop acting like you did.

The Pope along with millions of other true Christians know that the healing for the victims needs to be spiritual, not materially through money or imprisionment. Perhaps those who performed the crime should be imprisioned, but listen well, b/c of free will of others, the Catholic Church does not have control over all.

What YOU should do is pray for the spiritual recovery of the victims, instead of judging and bulling a man who did not perform such. Those who did fell to the devil. you should as well pray for them that they be not lost in darkness and learn to be what God says to be. To sacrifice one for the betterment of the other without selfishness.

Sincerely,
Vanessa
