I spoke to Paul on Saturday and he's fine. He says the prison is 100 times better than the remand centre in Gothenberg and he is relieved to have finally moved. The prison reminds him of a youth hostel, he has his own room which is larger than the one he had in Gothenberg, with no bars on the windows, there is a kitchen where the prisoners can make their own tea, coffee and sandwiches, there is a gym, a sauna and he is now, finally allowed to exercise outside. He is only locked up at night. Prisoners is Karlskoga can work (in a factory for crap wages) but Paul has chosen not to. He has also chosen not to learn Swedish as he is banned from the country for the next 5 years, and is spending his time reading, writing and watching TV. He says he has had no problems from any of the other prisoners, and everyone is friendly and laid back.
On leaving Gothenberg remand centre, Paul said, many of the prison staff came up and said goodbye in a really friendly way and said "don't worry, you're not a real criminal" (!?!)
Please keep sending Paul letters, Christmas cards, magazines and newspapers.
Please don't send him any more books as he now has 92 and is worried about how he is going to carry them all home. Thankyou to all of the people who have so far sent him books, letters etc, he is really grateful for the solidarity.
La lucha sigue.

Paul Robinson is a trade unionist from London who took part in the protests in Gothenburg in June 2001. Paul has been imprisoned for a year for violent rioting - in fact all he did was to roll a small stone along the ground into the gutter. Paul is being scapegoated by the Swedish authorities, who shot at protesters with live ammunition without any warning. Paul's appeal has now been heard - it confirmed the sentence of his original trial.
