Leave the US Marines Alone

31.01.2002 13:36

I understand completely that your group is anti-war and I do not believe in war myself BUT I must ask all of those that did protest, what is your solution? What do you suggest that the United States do, that they sit idley back and allow for Osama and his AL-queada posse to wreeck their deplorable and inexcusable wrath on the innocense within the US?? DOn't you people understand that those terrorists on Sept 11 want you dead? if not I urge you to do some research before you wave your flags of peace. These people (members of Osama's clan) are all over the world, and it is the job of those Marines to serve and protect their country. They are being loyal citizens to thier country, and loyal beings to the love of freedom. Unfortunately there has been innocense lost on the Afghan side as well, and that is a travesty and my heart goes out to them. But you must understand that the United States has no choice. I think that waving a flag of peace is easier said than done in a situation such as this, which is not cut and dry at all. Perhaps those of you that protested should try to put yourselves in the position of one that had family in the twin towers on the mourning of September 11, because I did. Perhaps if you envisioned your mother, father or brother in that building, you might sing a different song. To wrap this up I would like to in no way insult your cause, I have previously stated that I do not advocate war, but in every way possible I wish to convey a message of understanding for those marines and all of those that were attacked on September the 11th. Innocence was attacked, freedom was ridiculed and life was lost. Two wrongs certainly do not make a right, but I will be damned if I sit back and allow for my innocent family members to be blown up to bits without a body for a proper burial, and I will be damned if I sit back and not try to enlighten those of you that oppose the war against terror to understand the reasoning behind it.
Thank you all for your time and god bless
Sincerely,
Patricia

they are not protecting anyone

do you believe the world is a more or less safe place thanks to the american action. bin laden is still free and alive, the fundamentalist islamist cause has been hugely strengthened by legitimate anger in muslim countries. This action in afganistan and the coming action in other areas are designed to strengthen americas military presence all over the globe

Adding to the one above.

Terrorists are not to be found by sending thousands of marines all over the world. The only way fighting terrorism is by look for what started the persons to become terrorists. My belif is that the US have been playing a big part this. Remeber that the US supported Bin Laden a couple of years ago.

I am very glad to see people in Ireland to protest against the war. We are with you

Very best wishes :)

Decisions

25.01.2003 10:50

Everyone makes decisions in life...President Bush is in the grips of making an important decision. He has stuck to it. From the moments following September 11th to this very moment he has stuck to his agenda. How quickly the world can forget the tragedy of September 11th. Its easy to ridicule and tease and swear and point the finger...especially when that person you ridicule, tease, swear, and point the finger isn't you. President Bush is as human as the rest of us. In the grips of a difficult decision he continues to keep his word. That is leadership, and that is also the price he pays as a leader...

Oh and for those who say that they want "Peace"...Peace is something that you work for...you sometimes sweat for...you may even die for...and often times those who work, sweat, and die pass that peace on to the next generation. They Sacrifice! Waving a sign sends a message but what do WE do on a daily bases to ensure that everyone you meet feels that same "Peace"...think about it!! I Back My Country and President 100%.

From Ireland to ashes...

04.03.2003 00:39

It amazes me to see, of all people, the Irish protesting against America. It's ok to pray for peace, most of the world will agree with that. It's ok to want peace, most of the world will agree with that too. However, to call Americans the names that you used, to abuse our Marines while they are in your country, what nerve! Shame on you.

Ireland, where do you think you would be if it weren't for the US? Honestly, ask yourselves that. Do you think that this "Celtic Tiger" happened just because the Irish economy boomed out of no where? Ireland owes ALOT to America. Their lives, as they were and are now, todays economy in Ireland. And oh yeah, Peace. The Irish have shown to me they no nothing of Freedom.... as a whole, they were never brave enough to free their own people. Which is why there are still problems in Ireland today. Ireland, you may be afraid to fight for your freedom and you may be able to leave your countrymen behind, but Americans don't. Americans as a whole face our fears and do what we know is right. That is what makes this country great. That is why Ireland will never be free.

By the way, I, an American of Irish decent, pray for peace every night. I pray for our soldiers every night. But having said that, I will not fear evil.

Another American against war

09.03.2003 01:43

I,too am an American of Irish decent and I applaud the Irish protests against the Bush administration's plans to attack Iraq.
Let us not forget the fact that George W. Bush is an illegitimate president, appointed by Supreme Court justices who themselves are appointees of his father and Ronald Reagan. George W. Bush does not, and never did have the backing of the majority of the American people.Through his occupation of the White House, Bush stands in violation of the U.S. Constitution.
Since Sept 11th, the Bush administration has continued to trample on our constitution through its assaults on our civil liberties. They do this in the name of "homeland security." In reality, their internet surveillance, denial of permits to protest, etc., etc, are all part of their grand scheme to solidify power among their right wing, corporate, fundamentalist Christian friends.
Bush has continued to repeat the words September 11th and Hussein in the same breath for the past eighteen months, in what unfortunately, has been a successful effort to convince the American people that Hussein was responsible for the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. There is no connection, as high officials in the CIA and the FBI have repeatedly stated. This does not matter to George Bush. He is on his own mission from God to avenge the alleged attack on his father and get his hands on Iraqi oil.
With regard to the American military. I do not hold American service men and women responsible for the decsions made by George Bush. I know that many recognize the man as the the Chickenhawk that he is. (For those Irish readers, a Chickenhawk is defined as one who avoids military service, and then orders other people's sons and daughters into war.) George H.W. Bush pulled strings to get George W. at the top of the list for the Texas Air National Guard, a coveted spot at the time for those wanting to avoid military service in Vietnam. News reports have revealed that George W. failed to report to his Guard duty for the last 18 months of his required service, which in essence made him AWOL. That's absent without leave, a military deserter. That George W. Bush is now in position to send young American service men and women to thier deaths in an immoral effort to lay claim to Iraqi oil is heartbreaking to say the least.
And of course, there is the matter of the innocent Iraqi people that George claims to care so much about. If the Bush family cared so much for them why did Bush Sr. and Rumsfeld arm Hussein with chemical and biological weapons during the Reagan and Bush administrations? During his "press conference" the other night, Bush stated he wished for peace for the Iraqis. Unfortunately he will have his wish as many of them will be "resting in peace."
In closing, I would love to see the following headline:
"IN DEFIANCE OF POPE'S PLEAS FOR PEACE, BUSH PLANS TO LAUNCH ST. PATRICK'S DAY MASSACRE. IRISH CATHOLICS WORLDWIDE RISE UP IN PROTEST,PRAY TO PATRICK TO DRIVE SNAKES OUT OF WHITEHOUSE."

US Marine responds!

26.07.2004 18:23

I do understand why Ireland would protest the war against terror. As for attempting to storm a plan full of US Marines at Shannon Airport, this would lead to quite a few dead irish and allow the Marines to get some much needed trigger practice in before hitting Iraq. I love Ireland and the irish people. I am a United States Marine. I have stoped over in Shannon Airport on my way to the 1st Persian Gulf War in 1991, Bosnia in 1995 (by the way we had to go clean up another european mess!), and most recently on my way to Iraq in 2003. We don't ask for your support. We give you ours! Should Ireland face a massive terror attack, you can rest assure those Marines that you protest against at Shannon would gladly die for your freedom. We've been doing it for 229 years and will continue to do so. Pray for peace, but also pray for those of us who fight to keep it. The freedoms in the US are far greater then any nation in human history. Although we don't agree with the actions of are goverment from time to time, we have always supported those who sacrifice thier lifes for us.

Semper Fidelis,

D. Foster, USMC
