This could be a great turning point - I always remember Old Mick at the No M11 campaign - stood in fron t of a silent police line he was ranting at them, but you actually saw a glimmer of something in their faces when he said "support us officers - we'll support you when they try to privatise you"

We need to use this opportunity to show the police that they are just like the rest of the population - 'subjects' of a capitalist system that only gives a shit about the few who 'rule' & have power, the rest are either to be kept in line or are the ones who keep everyone else in line.
Granted there are some who are just sadistic bastards - most of these are in the TSG/Public order units (or the met) but the majority are just misguided individuals who probably though they could make a difference, and spend most of their time dealing with the unwelcome fallout of a consumerist society
(traffic/accidents/drug misuse/theft etc etc)
They are now under attack from the state & need to see that everyone is in the same boat - they are no different to the system than small businesses/farmers/activists and anyone who doesn't fit into the box the system thinks it should.

i can't see how we could go and support a group of people who want to be paid more to police us, we should be going out and encouraging them to get jobs that help society, not helping them to be paid more, by doing that we legitimise their positions in society. i do think that the police do some good work, but not enough for me to ignore the rest of it and take to the streets in their support.

Erm....c'mon guy's! Can't say I can see the rank and file coppers being allowed to choose where they work that day. Victimising them because they police us is daft to say the least.
Well, why don't they help us already? Why should they, what reason have they got? If we support them, however, the situation could be very different in the future.

Of course support them, this is the government seeking to squeeze the last pound of lfesh out of badly paid un-supported public servants in another so called efficency drive. as for the figures for days of sick, of course they do, there police, and as such have have tendancy to encounter dangerous situations at work (even if many of them do exacerbate the situations through bad practice) and when they are injured NEED more time of sick.

I think the Public Relations potential shoudl be plain for all to see.
