Full Moon and New years eve in Koh Phan Ngan, Thailand. 500 Plaincolthes pigs and the DEA for thousands of cheesy quavers!!

Spent the last couple of weeks here in Koh Phan Ngan , Thailand and thought i shoyld fill in ya in on some of whats goin on!! Before the massive, but seriosly cheesy, full moon party on Had Rin beach it was fairly well known that 500 plain clothes police had arrived in town just for the party and new years eve!! They could easily be seen hanging around in groups watching people. Anyone cought with so much as a roach is jumped on dragged off and made to pay 50-90000 Bahts(900-1500 pounds) or stay ang get tortured in a thai jail for many years. We saw people jumped on and punched in the face before being dragged of screaming!! It is well known here that the US pay quite a few dollars to the Thai authorities of everyday that a westerner is looked up in a Thai jail for drugs charges!! There was a 3 day crap trance party at a waterfall which was actually a tepid pond and stream. When we arrived we saw a group of 6 or so Thai policemen in uniform outside. With them was a white man with blond hair in his thirties. He carried a radio and wore a small badge. Who could this be??? DEA who else. Helping the evil Thai police catch westerners going to a party for a laugh. Of course there were psycadelics inside but for fucks sake!!! America pushing its fascist foreign policy in a country where they will kill you and definately torture you for not very much.

Listen idiot - it's you that are the invaders, not the Thai police or any US affilliates.

Are you aware of the major problems Thailand has with heroin and amphetamines? Most of this is refined in Burma (Myanmar) - one of the world's nastiest regimes.

I hope that the Thai police bust your sad ass. It's their country not yours.

Did you see the film The Beach? What a load of rubbish that was. Did you know that the filmakers caused major ecoligical damage on Phi Phi Leh just to make their naff film. You're just as bad. You go to Thailand because it's cheap - you don't give a shit about Thailand just your own selfish pleasure.

Koh Phangan history

I have visited Koh Phangan since 1990 when it was a truly magical experience.
I saw a marked change for the full moon '97 parties. Everyone was scared - there
were police appearing from the interior and raiding bungalows at dawn. These
were bungalows several km from Had Rin. Lots of people dragged from their beds
and searched then fined or imprisoned. The atmosphere at the party was one of fear.
Uniformed and non-uniformed police were everywhere on the beach and a police boat
stayed the whole time just off the beach. I was shocked to see such a change and
thought I'd try and find out what was going on. I talked to some Thai's who ran bars
etc. and some villagers. They told me that the Israeli government were deeply concerned
about the many young nationals going there on holiday and having a good time mixing
with others and generally discovering 'peace & love'. There were also some Americans
caught with cannabis. The American/Israeli response was to pay the thai police large
sums of money to launch a major crackdown on the full moon party. That included harassing
anyone and subjecting them to searches for no reason. The idea was to turn a party paradise
into some sort of hell.

I'm kinda new to this whole 'anti-capitalist' thing, so perhaps you could explain to me what going on vacation in Thailand and taking recreational drugs has to do with social justice. Perhaps if you really gave a shit, you would donate a few quid to Oxfam or something like that and stay home.

Oh, and save your ridiculous conspiracy theories for someone who cares. As stated above, Thailand has a massive problem with drugs and the right to try and sort that out.

Police harassment has everything to do with social justice.
Especially when it's aimed at preventing young nationals
learning peace and tolerance. Every country has a substantial
drug culture. The real question is what makes people want
to indulge in recreational drug use?

Pretty much every backpacker and most party people took
great care to look after the environment there. I witnessed
far more people who were concerned with ecology than I ever
did in the west.

Sad to see the mentality of some of you!
As for Insiders ignorant naive statements!! Thailand would be one of the richest countries in Asia if it dint kiss Amerikkkas ass soo much. The Thai regime fully supports the military dictatorship in Burma and until recently supported and bankrolled the evil Khmer Rouge killing machine in Cambodia as did the good old USA. Ever heard of basic human rights insider? no. Of course the fukin beach is a load of holywood shite and ruined parts of Ko Phi Phi. But who recieved the countless millions of dollars for permission to ruin the island? The Thai government of course. Its sell out city over here.
And Chris life would be pretty sad staying forever in depressing dead London and never expanding your horizons and experiencing different cultures. Get with it are you a fukin socialist worker or something , gonna try and sell me a magazine eh?? And there is no conspiracy theory. Thats life.
