Uganda Police Shoot Student Dead

A STUDENT has been shot dead and several others have been seriously injured during a clash a morning clash between police and Uganda Peoples Congress (UPC) party supporters.
The student was shot in the chest while police was trying to disperse hundreds of UPC sympathizers including supporters of former presidential candidate Kibirige Mayanja, chanting UPC party slogans outside the party headquarters at Uganda House, Kampala.
UPC had scheduled to hold a public rally today at the Constitutional Square, Kampala but police spokesman John Kimera warned the public yesterday against venturing into the planned rally.
Police opened sporadic gunfire injuring four others, including two civilians and two Police constables who have been hit by stray bullets this afternoon.
Different Radio Stations in Kampala have also reported that a tourist of an unidentified nationality could have been seriously injured during the upheaval. All reports are yet to be clarified by different authorities.
The student has only been identified as Moses, a module II student of journalism at a local journalism commonly known as UMCAT in Old Kampala, a city Suburb.
His body laid at the entrance of Caltex, a petroleum filling station opposite Uganda House, along Jinja road for sometime before it was taken to the city mortuary for a postmortem operation in Mulago Hospital.
