are the bbc censoring alterantive views

irate reader | 31.03.2002 12:00

bbc's online 'talking point' facility, only offers one point of view.

on the bbc's online 'talking point' facility, there is an opportunity for you to 'have your say' however, this time it is only offering you a chance to pay tribute to the queen mother, and my there are hundreds of these tributes and no criticism, fishy?

BBC Talking point censorship

31.03.2002 13:21

The censorship of the BBC Talking Point pages has been a constant from day one. On an issue like the death of the Queen Mother the BBC line is that Britain is in mourning - no contrary views are allowed. Republicans do not exist. Even those who are ambivalent or apathetic do not exist.

More worrying is the trend that on contentious issues the BBCs idea of balance is to allow incoherent rants that counter the status quo, but any comments that make a coherent convincing case for change, particular to the corporate or political status quo, will be censored.

The open discussion pages on the Big Bullshit Company are
total shite. At one stage of the game I tried to add comments. Most of them critical, but without swearing or getting heavy in anyway. Never once did one of my comments get added to the discussion. if you read through the comments you find that the whole thing is stage managed for "straights" who have probably never been anywhere and witnessed the suffering caused by American foriegn policy for example. The open discussions on the BBC are pathetic and completely rigged / Censored. The commnets could be compared to the letters written into DLT's on the world service... CRAP...

No Sir Prize !

Well, since when was the BBc a repository of agitation ? The BBc gives the impression of being dedicated to free speech, but who told us that? ... Bush House of course !
But this is why initiatives like IMC are so important

lets target BBC offices for Mayday protest

31.03.2002 19:02

The media are a big part of the problem. So lets stop pissing around thinking that one day they are going to tell the truth about the protest movement. They never will.

Lets just get out there and do the protest at their HQ. Send it straight back down their throats. Cut out the middleman. Everything that happens in the media gets amplified, so lets make the media the centre of our protest.

They are a big reason why nothing changes, their cover up is a big part of the reason why people don't think that change is possible. Target the media!

- Oh and on the Queen Mother. She just did nothing for years and years, was a big status symbol for the status quo. Lets grow up and abolish the monarchy!!!

if the talking point's "why we loved...

01.04.2002 01:17

if the talking point's called "why we loved the queen mum" (or whatever) what do you expect. it's obvious they're not going to allow any other views, or very few of them. the talking point thingy's always small anyway, after princess margaret died i tried to put something up attacking the monarchy, it never got published, so then i tried (unde r other names, other email addresses, from other internet connections) a few other comments: some fawning-royalist-daily mail reader-bonkersness, some "a good woman has died, she will be missed", a few ironic-read-between-the-lines-it's-clear-this-can't-be-serious supposedly"pro-royalist" comments. none of them were published. on the talking points there is always a very short selection of views - not all of them always agreeing with the proposition. not to defend the bbc, but use your brain a bit....

if you want to post some stuff on the bbc's website, they have a "great debates" section with message boards. these are moderated but there is a load of (serious) anti-monarchy (and pro-monarchy) (see: it's a debate!) stuff there.
e.g. at  http://www.bbc.co.uk/cgi-perl/h2/h2.cgi?state=view&board=greatdebate.frontpage
otherwise there are message boards for all of the radio stations etc where lots of people are slagging off the bbc for pulling all music content off radio 1 and 6music etc and making it all bland.
