Massive Protests in Paris

Anti-Nazi | 21.04.2002 23:07

Anti - Rascist Protests

The BBC is reporting massive spontaneous protests accross France with a huge demonstration in Paris. People carrying banners marked 'Ashamed to be French' in response to the election of National-Front leader John Marie Le Pen to the second round of the presidential election.

This result means that the soft (and highly corrupt) right are almost certain to win the election.

where's Jack

Jack ( loved/hated in = parts)has had his thread on Le Pen removed. Why? It wasn't inaccurate, inflammatory but it came from him. Give a dog a bad name is not a policy I'd expect from IMG

ridiculous

21.04.2002 23:45

I'm incensed to hear that some people have now got sour grapes and decided to take to the streets to voice this. It was a free and fair election, the media were dead against Le Pen from the start, and if these protestors who have decided to vent their sour grapes on the rest of France don't like it then tough luck. Someone needs to tell these moaning minnies to grow-up and get a life, the FN don't take to the streets and protest when they loose an election, so why should these people. I'd imagine most of them are Jospin supporters that are angered that victory won't be theirs this time around, but really, they should play fair and accept the result.

They have no right to userp the democratic voice of the voters with their anger at not getting the candidate they wanted into the second round.

Sorry, but the people of France who bothered to vote have spoken, and with 16 candidates to choose from representing all political hues there really is no excuse.

Such childish in antics a modern European country are ridiculous.

Jack the piece of shit

22.04.2002 00:14

Jack's post referred to "floods of asylum seekers". Obviously there is no "flood" - he is using emotive language to inspire racism, contrary to the editorial guidelines of IMC.

Jack, you're wrong.

Those people aren't angry because they "lost", they're angry because a RACIST has made it into the second round of the presidential election.

They're angry because somebody who bases his policies on HATE has come close to getting into power.

And they're angry because a large proportion of ordinary french people have shown themselves to be racists.

And racism is something that all decent minded people deplore.

Racists aren't evil. They're just WRONG.

And so is Jack.

And I feel rather smug, because I just love it when I'm right and other people are WRONG! ;-)

"War hero"?

22.04.2002 04:33

Jack considers LePen to be "a war hero and political heavyweight who would regain the independance and glory that France once had." As far as I know LePen's experience of warfare was in Algeria, in one of the dirtiest colonial wars of all times. He served as captain of the Frech army and was repeatedly accused of tortures and murders (there was a case when he threw a "suspect" out of the window). At the same times he participated in OAS (Organization de Armee Secrete), a right-wing organization who planned to overthrow parliamentary democracy in Frace. Now, as far as French "independance" and "glory" that LePen is so eager to restore, Jack probably refers to something comparable to the times of the Vichy government, the French collaborationist state during World War II. LePen has repeatedly made public his admiration about Frech interwar fascists and marshall Petain.
This is LePen's vision.

Greetings from Greece.

Everybody likes an election where they do well, but
Nobody likes an election which doesnt meet with success, and we socialists all know that when the fascist parties such as in Italy, Spain and Germany didnt quite get their majorities, they burned down the paliament and shot the oposition
