Why this sudden interest in black panthers? Did your parents support their struggles i think not and picking up on some outdated specifically separatist black movement's now impotent lions last stand seems rather anachronistic and too much like Ali G . Black people have and will always be oppressed. This is a truism not negativity. Many black panthers did commit murder and although some did not and were taken out of the system there is the danger of them all being seen as innocent victims of a white middle class conspiracy. Sure they have an interesting perspective on life for radicals in the USA but here in the UK what purpose do such meetings serve other than for white people who have few or no black friends to feel like they are rubbing shoulders with the black people they want the black people of this country to be like. Dream on This kind of thing is bollocks . Why not find some radical black people from the UK to come to your meetings or don't you know any ? Or do you just dismiss them as bitter and want them to shut up and have no voice ? Are you exploiting these old men ? Are they exploiting your liberal bleeding hearts cos i bet they will ask you for money cos they ain't got any ?

Far as I'm concerned, the MOST important thing about this is PRECISELY that it's "failed shit". There was a radical current in the 60s and the Panthers were a part of that. And, yes, with a hefty push from the state- heard of Cointelpro?- it degenerated into drug dealing, crime, bitterness- all the shit you're talking about.

There's a new radical current developing today; and MAYBE, if we pay a bit of attention to what happened before, we can avoid some of those pitfalls. And then try to put a bit of energy into something more than slagging shit off on the internet...?
