NO CASE TO ANSWER - 3 WOMBLES freed

Uncle Soweto | 02.05.2002 18:38

3 of the WOMBLES defendants had their cases dismissed at the end of the prosecution case. 4 will be presenting their defence tomorrow. FREE THE WOMBLE 4!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Three of the Wombles defendants in the Halloween trial saw their cases dismissed (with no case to answer) at the end of the prosecution's presentation.

The remaining 4 will be presenting their defence tomorrow.

The political show trial against the WOMBLES is not going well for the bully State and it's authoritarian police force in London. Their plan to keep WOMBLES off the street on Mayday, backfired when it was discovered that the court was closed for the afternoon, so that Magistrates could be told how to fit-up Mayday defendants. The fitted up charges arose out of an incident where a group (some of whom were WOMBLES) were attacked by officers who were part of the ironically named "Operation Calm", which was run after 911. Although the operation was officially anti-terrorist, police witnesses admitted that it's main purpose was to make the public "feel safe".(We always knew transit vans couldn't stop planes flying into buildings!)

An over eager police officer turned it into "Operation Calamity" by jumping out of the van, running across the road, grabbing one of the group and pushing him into a shop doorway. When members of the group protested at their friend's treatment, their requests for information were met with hard shoves and threats from the officer's mates. The officer was PC 625XH Hayes, who is normally based in Hayes, Middlesex. He was festooned with medals for his disastrous appearance.

Even more strange is the fact that the two originally grabbed on spurious claims were not in white overalls, and had been present at an anti-Kissinger demo at the IOD, earlier in the evening which passed off peacefully AND WHICH WAS ATTENDED BY THE VERY SAME CARRIER OF BULLY COPPERS.

Initially the trial was set to be tried by Roger Davies, District Judge, who has a reputation for extreme sentencing against "foreigners" and protestors. A last minute substitution saw a Judge shipped in from a different court. Security measures at the court were extreme and even defendant's barristers were being snapped by police photographers on the Monday. Members of the Forward Intelligence Team (FIT) from the MET, who have been engaged in harrassing members of the group for months, were sitting in the courtroom! CO373 spent Monday afternoon trying to outstare defendants.

This trial has cost a fortune!!! Any convictions are likely to be appealed, and the costs will spiral. Those released today have declared their intention to seek compensation from the Met.

SUPPORT THE WOMBLE 4 - OPPOSE ALL FIT-UPS!!!!
