Thank you for a very useful resource, although it could do with some links
to other BBC stories.

I would prefer, however, if it referred to at least
one further key event: the UK sales of arms as uncovered
in the Scott Inquiry, which nearly brought down our government.
This was big news and there is no excuse for forgetting
about it since it was crucial to Iraq that it had a
steady supply of Western arms.

Also:
>1988 16 March - Iraq is said to have used chemical weapons against the Kurdish town of >Halabjah.
There is no "said" about it. This actually happened,
and the UK govt knew about it. There was a statement
in the House of Lords about it in 1988 (not online,
unfortunately). The supply of UK arms continued
after this event.

Thank you.

"Eurasia is at war with Oceania. Eurasia has always been at war with Oceania. Eurasia is allied to East Asia. Eurasia has always been at war with East Asia."
compare that with
Oh Saddam Hussein, yeah he's a great bloke - we better keep quiet about those massacres that he's committing against the Kurds but yeah, he's our man... a man we can do business with. (whilst in private) "he's a son of a bitch but he's our son of a bitch".
...
Saddam is an evil murderer - we must always hate Saddam and we must go to war against him and destroy him - how dare he invade Kuwait.
