Sex Pistol sellout attacks "anti-globalisation" protestors

The Guardian/Simon Hattenstone | 17.05.2002 01:34

Interview with Johnny Rotten where he attacks "anti-globalisation" protestors and reveals his love for Newt Gingrich

Simon Hattenstones interview reveals Johhny "Arsehole" Rotten to be just-another-Brit-celeb. Especially nauseating is the section where he's a dick to the people serving him tea in Fortnum & Mason's cafe. Wot an idiot!

you bastard!

I went and wasted loads of time reading a very long and very boring interview and he hardly said anything about us. And what he did say wasn't even *that* bad.

Also, let's stop calling ourselves "anti-globalisation".

It makes it sound as if we are anti-internationalist when we are in fact the opposite.

thats a good point!

it's about time we characterise ourselves with sthing possitive instead of negative (anti-), don't you think?

Working class hero (maybe not...)

17.05.2002 15:07

John Lydon is a total sell-out. He has claimed over the years that he stands up for the working class of Britain. Apart from a handful of amazing songs he seems to have done little to change things (even the Clash, who had a much more revolutionary stance don't do much; not forgetting Billy Bragg). By the looks of things Johnny has his priorities mixed up, he complains about the how American Britain has become but he attacks people like us who are against it and the whole capitalist thing. I remember him saying that socialists were the 'scum of the earth'. If you ask me that statement more appt when applied to him. Sorry to say that Johnny, but you truly are rotten. ;-)

Anti-corporate globalisation?

17.05.2002 16:06

How about anti-corporate globalisation? or just anti-capitalist?
Yes the interview was a waste of paper. It is just amazing the Guardian taking him so seriously. A two pages interview?!

no gods no masters

i luv johnny and espeacially sid(rip), doesnt matter wat johnny's said now or become now, its the past thought that counts, holding that thought, an idea thats more popular and alot bigger than the people who brought it to us. individual personalities dont count, wat counts is collective rebellion, ANARCHY watever form it takes, whether yur a binman or a brain surgeon, we can all contribute anarchistically in our own small ways. Anarchism is not an intellectual concept for the right on elite, anarchism is a simple concept, we all have at some point in our lives been anarchistic, parents organising a protest against lack of play parks for their kids, thats anarchism, people power, people coming together to act collectively, unions, community vigilantes and paramilitaries, as long as we act WITHOUT the interference, support, instruction and direction of the state and its armed protectors, self autonomously we are anarchists and as long as we act for the collective good of all regardles of colour, class or creed.

Sex Pistols suck

18.05.2002 00:53

Man, as if I was'nt sick enough of Mr. Rotten and his mindless rhetoric.

Remember back in like 95' when the Pistols got back together and announced that they hated each other, they were only doing the tour for money?

What a bunch of sell out fucks.

His only criticizm of the "anti-globalization movement" is a horrible stereotype. I am against economic imperialism, and I don't have a cell phone or a laptop, or designer clothes.

Go fuck yourself, Johnny Rotten.

PEACE!!!
