Silence on the Kurds

Thank you so much for this post. You have shown the hypocrisy of the West. The people who right now who are marching for the Palestinians are actually anti Westerners. They only go after Israel, because they see Israel as an ally of the U.S. Ofcourse, if Saddam gasses and massacres the Kurds again, you wont hear a peep from these people. Yet if Israel goes in the West Bank to go after the Palestinian terrorists, who sent homicide bombers that have massacred hundreds of Jewish civilians in buses, shopping centers, disco's, pizzeria's, cafe's, restaurants, weddings, Bar Mitzvah's and schools. These these people will protest massively against Israel.

The movement that I see myself as being part of is one that seeks to protect human rights and the environment from those who abuse their enormous power for selfish ends such as the persuit of capitalist profit.
I see this movement manifested in all the recent international protests from Seatle onwards, and all the mayday protests throughout the world in the last few years.
I personally condemn all oppression of vulnerable people, whether they are Palestinians, Kurds, West Papuans, Iraqis, or whoever.
I believe that the reason that there's so much resistance to Israel's actions at the moment is because of the outrageousness of what Israel is doing right now, and that's why the emphasis is on this conflict and not other ones.
Maybe some people are only in it because they oppose america, and maybe some people are genuinely anti-Semitic, but this doesn't include myself and it doesn't include large numbers of other people who are part of this movement.
Free Palestine has become a fashionable cause, like Free Tibet. That doesn't mean it's not a good cause. Israel must be stopped from persuing its policies of State terrorism - both military and also the more subtle bureaucratic variety....
...But yes we should broaden our horizons and look to be defending the rights of other equally deserving oppressed people.
Free Kurdistan is a good cause, as is the general shit going on in the Indonesian empire, and the plight of trade unionists in Colombia. There are many other examples that I can't think of right now.
If we don't have the occasion to mobilise 'en masse' and have a big demo then we should all do small autonomous actions outside embassies and offices of multinationals and such like.
Don't wait for the orders from Globalise Resistance - just grab a bunch of mates and do a protest. Four people will do! 2 to hold a banner and 2 to give out leaflets :-) Obviously the more the merrier, but while big demos certainly have their importance the movement needs to broaden out from the emphasis on big marches and start doing smaller local autonomous actions as well - the sort of thing which it would also be nice to see next mayday.
