WASHINGTON (CNN) -- One day after the skeletal remains of Chandra Levy were found and nearly 13 months after she vanished, Washington's police chief said no one should expect a quick conclusion to the investigation into the former intern's death.

Investigators, sources said, are looking into whether the Levy case can be connected to two prior assaults on women in the area of the park where the remains were found. A man has been arrested and convicted in connection with those incidents.

Some observers have speculated that Levy might have fallen victim to a serial killer. Several other young women have disappeared from the same area of Washington in recent years, and the murders of two other young women over the past three years remain unsolved.

"We'll do everything humanly possible to get to the bottom of this case," Ramsey said Thursday. "It's not going to be easy. It's not going to be quick. But we will not stop until we find out what happened to Chandra Levy."

Levy's skeletal remains were found Wednesday morning in a northwest Washington park, almost 13 months after she vanished without a trace. A check of dental records later confirmed the remains were those of Levy, 24, who was last seen April 30, 2001, in the nation's capital.
