immigation assignment

spits | 26.05.2002 16:21

I would like to present my essay assignment to you, my people. Since it is a particularly interesting and difficult question, I wanted to share it with you to see any ideas y'all might have, so as to be a sort of dialogue for me to engage with with the hope of enriching my essay. So without further adu here is the question.

-It is a well known adage that America is a "Land of immigrants." Very few, other than First Nation peoples, can claim the United States (turtle island)as their ancestral home.Yet throughout our history the polocies we have adopted to deal with immigrants, whether legal or illegal, have been somewhat "schizophrenic." We have welcomed immigrants in the good times or when we have neede them and then selectivley shunned, deported or imprisoned them when they were no longer useful, wanted or needed. Nor can it be easily argued that we have treated European immigrants the same as we have immigrants from Asia or Latin America.
Shortly after Bush took office he engaged President Fox of Mexico in a dialogue that, among other things, raised the possibility of asylum for illegal immigrants in the US. Talk of loosening on immigration and on immigrants stopped abruptly after Sept. 11. The current wave of nationalism/ anti-immigrationism is not unique to America, as the recent French elections demonstrate.

The essay question is as follows:
Design an immigration polocie that incorporates humanitarian, economic, social and legal values in a way that you believe is fair to those seeking asylum or entry into the United States and, at the same time, protects it's national interests, security or otherwise.

Capitalism is not for everyone only the few

no immigration policy would be the best fuking policy ever, yous americans are obviously all mongrels, and yous are not reknowned for your intelligence, that is why yous admire the royal family and all things snobby, cos yous feel inferior and you need mega rich bastards to look up to and tell you what to do. NO BORDERS, NO SNOBS, NO GODS, NO MASTERS. Ordinary people need to be directed to the REAL PARASITES, ie the establishment, multinational fat cats and the mega rich snobs, who are distracting ordinary people from their own exploits, ie relocating their sweat shop factories to the third world and causing mass employment and exconomic decline in the west and europe, also by promoting the rise of neo nazi far right vichy fascists, and targeting immigrants to blame for economic decline, when this is in fact due to the policies of multinational multibillionaires, who are moving their sweat shop factories to the third world to make bigger profits, and take advantage of slave labour and lax health and safety laws. many refugees and asylum seekers are from eastern european the former yugoslave republic and afghanistan, countries who've been at the end of western military interventionist policies, where whole communities and cities have been laid to waste, devastated and reduced to rubble, so a very good immigration policy would be to STOP MILITARY INTERVENTION in these countries to remove the necessity of people being displaced due to war and fleeing, after their homes, communities and livelihood have been destroyed in the military crossfire. the aggressive military interventionist policies, are misleading the natives of these countries such as the former yugoslave republic into thinking that becos the west or nato helped them militarily and cared so much as to actually come to their lands to provide military aid, from this, these people deduct that the west actually likes them, so again theyre being given mixed signals, yes we can come to your countries and establish military bases there, but no you can't come to our countries to flee the devastation in your war torn wastelands. so it follows that the importation of refugees can be stopped by not exporting our war machine to these peoples countries, and giving them mixed signals.

hmm?

26.05.2002 23:50

Dear, babsdebrawl
Please don't put all of us who happen to live on this continent into the sterio type which you hold of everyone who lives here (America). For we are not all the same, just as all black people are not good at basketball. So please use the term "you people" more intelligently and don't be such a prick. Besides I just thought it would be perhaps interesting to present this essay question here. I never said I agreed with immigration, and I am not one of those people who think that everyone in the world eather wants to live here, or is out to get us. And to everyone else who can't seem to get past my occasional mistpelling, I hope it's not throwing you off of the point.
