The racist coverage of the asylum seekers has been particularly sick and is a large part of the reason why there are now three BNP councillors in Burnley. The media - supporting fascism, racism and the scapegoating of minorities.

I can't really believe my eyes when I read this post. To accuse the liberal media of being "racist" is ridiculous. It does more to cover-up racist attacks against white people than anyone. Are we really talking about the same media here, where all the newspapers said "Vote for anyone except the BNP" - yet they're backing them are they?

These newspapers tow the same liberal-left line as the rest of the media, the Daily Mail included (even though it is a bit of a sop to the Tories). Why don't you people care about the racist attacks and gang rapes of young white girls? It's always someone else with the left, charity begins at home!

Asylum seekers are overwhelmingly bogus, those that come here from France do so because they have less of a chance of being deported here (as they can disappear into the woodwork if need be - no national ID cards here).

They're the least we should be worrying about, but then the left have always had their priorities wrong.

And of course if France is going to deport them they'll go to somewhere less likely to deport them. If you'd come all that way, fleeing persecution torture or even death, would you let the french government deport you if you had the opportunity to go to england where you have a better chance of not being sent back to persecution / torture / death?

And yes I agree that the press isn't fascist (although lots of it, especially the mail is nothing like liberal). But it is racist in a way, when it calls for harsh treatment of asylum seekers. That is racist isn't it? Or nationalist or something like that.

Just because someone doesn't like the bnp doesn't mean that they are not in some way shape or form racist. There are plenty of mildly racist people out there who view the bnp in disregard because they see it as a bunch of violent yobbish thugs, and not a credible political party.. or even because they consider the bnp to be "too" racist. That doesn't meant that they're not at all racist.

Er.. have you ever actually met any asylum seekers. What kind of authority do you think you have to claim that they are overwhelmingly bogus? You just like to try to believe that so that you can feel less guilty about sending them back to their deaths. Either that or you've been brainwashed by the biassed press. As *so* many people have.

Yes Huw, gang rapes on young girls are awful….white or otherwise….but I think u missed the point…..this post and this demo aren’t about gang rapes, they’re about the coverage of asylum seekers in the corporate media.
As the UN report, which was published this week, points out, the number of asylum seekers has dropped considerably over the last decade. This has coincided with a massive increase of media coverage on the issue…..clearly then there is an ulterior motive…namely that people love a scapegoat and that most people (obviously you included) have a lot of hatred just waiting to be given something or someone to hate…..
As for ‘bogus’ asylum seekers, I would like to hear from a right wing free market believer who can explain how free trade means free movement of capital (i.e western multinationals jumping from one country to the next in the search of lower paid workers with less labour law protection and laxer environmental laws) but the movement of labour is restricted by fences, guards etc….. you can’t have it both ways, either we create a free global market place in which people have the same rights of movement as business or we stop either from moving around looking for a better deal…. Otherwise the world will simply remain divided into a small proportion of rich consumers, with the majority of people on the planet producing goods for the rich people, surrounded by fences and guards stopping them from getting into the richer areas….a very blatant system of apartheid

..with this last post. Of course admitting genuine asylum seekers should be a priority, but whether they are 'bogus' or not is a side issue, which we shouldn't give to much attention to. If ordinary migrants have to make asylum claims (genuine or not) to stay here, that's just fine with me.

The media portrayal of immigration as some terrible 'problem' in the first place should be the central issue. Border control is racist, it attacks personal freedom, limits redistribution and artificially maintains a pool of cheap labour for the supra-nationals.
