With atomic war brewing, this is bad taste

Campaign against dogshit and football.
Football is the major social pllutant of our times, a parody of 'solidarite' et 'fraternite'. How dare you 'celebrate' when the entire world is plunged into conflict (and the same goes for the Royalist mobs at the weekend.
so, Johnny 19, what have you, or your fellow jeering crowds actually gained through this ? Think about it before you end up on some scum-show documentary about footie thugs.
I reject football and all its works ! I dont care whether its an expression of the working-class. If they arent socialist by now, theyre doomed !
i went for a walk when the match came on. suddenly i heard a dull roar emanating from the damp earth, or so it seemed. in fact, it was the goal you refer to being scored. i tell you it felt eerie; perhaps thats how the sound was for people living in the villages just outside Nuremberg in the 1930s ...

marxist rubbish

07.06.2002 14:55

Whilst I am not a fan of football, finding the sport relatively boring to watch, I find the comments made by Campaign against dogshit to be totally insane.

I quite like to start a Campaign against dogshit, by stamping out socialists, marxists and trots.

dear idiot !
this is not a footie website ! try the 'www .drunken morons smashing up asian corner shops . com instead.
by contrast,
you may not be aware that Marxists do write in to IMC quite often, as do other socialists, anarchists and assorted radicals (pacifists, religious groups, ecologists etc).
hilarious really, if only because i was painfully aware that many socialists would take issue with my piece !

I'm glad another radical feels the same!

07.06.2002 15:43

Even amongst Marxists and anarchists my views are ridiculed, so I'm glad someone else feels the same.

if you think about it, 'patriotism' is just as stupid as racism. your 'nationality' is an accident of birth. so is your 'race'. so surely it makes just as much sense to support whites over blacks (if you are 'white') as it does England over Argentina (if you are 'English').

St George Slays the Dragon?

I sat and watched the match, amongst my work collegues, who were all supporting England. To be quite frank, it turned my stomach to see those painted white and red faces, the chanting, the usual ' we are English, we are proud, and we are going to show the world'. The English arrogance is rather sickening.

Rugby League is better!

07.06.2002 18:12

Soccer is o.k. but it's not a patch on Rugby League. RL is still played and watched almost exclusively by the working class. No prawn sandwich eating middle-class gits up in the executive boxes pretending they've followed the game for years, no racist chanting, no ex-brigadiers and fucking wing commanders like you get in rugby yawnion kick and clap. No segregation of fans because there is no fighting. No tours of dodgy countries like S.A. when aparthied was in full swing. No twats from the BNP tring to muscle in and not Trot dickheads. If fact the only thing which could improve rugby league is the use of a Trots head as the ball. Looking at some of them I think that's already been done.

Ronnie.

worst thing

07.06.2002 18:12

I watrched the match, secretly supporting argentina cos they have a bankrupt nation and could do with cheering up. but I was quite happy to be with england fans and share their sorrows and joys. until - until - someone gave an argentine player a bloody nose and the fans in the city of london cheered. since foreign banks have helped to bring argentine to its knees,. this seemed a joy too far. cheering a bloody nose? the ugly game more like.

rugby league

07.06.2002 20:08

that's interesting to learnt that rugby league is a working class game. rugby was originally invented at Rugby School, one of the poshest bording schools in the country, when during a game of football, one of the boys picked up the ball and ran with it.

See ya in the park...

07.06.2002 20:30

Today was fucking fantastic! All me family together, most of us bunking off work, kids out of school, drinking beer at midday, together, celebrating the beautiful skills of both the England players and the Argentinians....The house was full of anarchists booing the national anthems and "Rule Britania", but revelling in the event that brought us altogether today. LONG LIVE FOOTBALL! See ya in the park on sunday........ HACKNEY CREW XXXX

Rugby League

07.06.2002 21:17

Don't confuse rugby league (working class and mainly northern) and union (outside wales) southern and middle class (and boring)..... but despite being an anarchist cannot help being pleased with England winning. Hope London Broncoes do as well over the weekend.

rugby league isn't that like rounders?

comment

08.06.2002 05:36

Pity how we lost only to a penalty due to a foul committed by one of our players; the only way England could score. Personally, I don't think neither side played well. One thing is for sure no doubt, this world cup is unpredictable.

On this posting, at least it wasn't as bad as the one posted by some little Thatcherite in www.indymedia.org ranting on about "England 1 Argentina 0... Still Possess the Falklands" rubbish.

Up Yours Little Stalinist!

08.06.2002 12:25

Campaign against Dogshit? You really have had a bad day haven't you ? Stuck in on your poor little own, in your darkened little bedroom...what a sad little wanker you are. What do you mean about "how dare you celebrate!"...you sound like a right fucking STALINIST to me. Get a life mate, get outside in the sunshine. What are you doing posting your sad little rants on here for..this is a newswire, not the samaritans. And if England go on to win the world cup and we end up in the fountains of Trafalgar square having a laugh, then i'll have a drink for you and hope you've done us all a favour and hung yourself.

08.06.2002 13:36

Yeah, great comments by Hackney Calling. I too enjoyed a great afternoon watching En-ger-land, with a house full of anarcho yobbos. We went mad when Becks scored. Fuck all the patrionism, and anti- argentinian bollox, We simply love football... Anarchist 'til i die, and an England Football supporter 'til i die.

Eto'o the Yid

why wasnt the original posting removed ?

08.06.2002 13:56

for a start, there's no 'radical' content to it at all, which makes it irrelevant, and as it seems to invoke anti- argentine feeling, it may be positively suspect... can it be the entire nation is covertly celebrating the silver jubillee of the falklands malvinas war...
consider too, how malleable the football supporting brigade are; for years they thrived on beer and fish n chips, then they were suddenly told to eat vindaloo curry, which they duly did. then they were told they had to like the foreigner mr eriksson (who frankly has about as much personality as a mobile phone), even bizarrely revelling in him. WHY O WHY O WHY ? cant people see that football is part of the larger equation of state- control ? years ago an anarchist song went

"State control and rock n roll are run by clever men;
It all good for business; we're in the charts again".

in which case Football really is the new rock n roll.

Football Crazies

03.09.2003 20:13

Over one year on, I see my posting had a load of replies. There's a lot of bullshit been written about a simple football result. Shame we didn't do better. And there it is, "We", the nation - which many of us identify with. Question: Should a socialist or anarchist or even a conservative deny the existence of a national identity simply because they do not like the nation state? (which is not the same entity as the nation). Did the poor Argentine's support England, apologetic for having started a war which led the the loss of UK citizen's lives? Unfocussed anti-capitalism anti-globalisation with no policies (economic or otherwise) is one thing, but this anti-nationism is idiotic. If you want to feel like a superior intellectual misunderstood righteous minority, and you think you can get there by denegrating the most popular sport in Europe (which maintains the health of millions of people who play Sunday league etc.), then do so. But if you are degrading football, pubs, politeness, our rebuilding communities, sports, consideration, neighbourlyness. You can only make this world a better place by loving others first, and our country will be a great country when we love each other.

Censor that (directed to the person who said all postings should be radical) - answer me this: Who is radical? Engaging in irrational crowd behaviour takes places at demonstrations and football matches every weekend. When you have something more radical to say than an international striker, you'll have a football matched sized attendence (ref: anti Iraq war demos London)
