The Whole World Is Marching; The Whole World Is...

marco | 29.10.2002 00:51

A roundup story about protests all over the place this past weekend. Please add any more you know about here and at the global imc if you can (This just in: 5-10K in Berlin!)

Yesterday the streets of Rome saw the largest Palestinian nation flag I ever knew existed.

The march included maybe 10,000 people. Also, the same Saturday saw tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands, hundreds and thousands in almost every major city in the world marching AGAINST George W's plans to invade, torment, and further annoy the Hussein regime. That's gotta piss off the 70 some odd middle-aged white US Senator men who voted FOR W's nefarious plans.

And perhaps yesterday's worldwide buzz gives a tiny bit of comfort to the innocent civilians around Basra and Baghdad who will be allowed to live another day, as the US Government gives itself just a little bit of pause. Perhaps cooler heads will prevail, but this journalist doesn't hold out a lot of hope, to be honest with you. The elite people surrounding George W Bush, the "Idiot in Chief" are so demonstratively itching for a fight, I'll bet you can see their knees shaking. How, when and where will they be held back? We know the why and the who. Look to the streets, it's clear. The Untied States can no longer deny that it is a divided nation once again. Perhaps not as bad as the 1860's but close. Perhaps not much worse than the 1960's but closer still, and moving fast.

Can anyone keep denying the division?

Not Gore Vidal certainly, and def [sic.] not Walter Mondale. Hmmm. Walter Mondale. Is he the bite in the ass George W Bush didn't expect? Perhaps "Old Walter" is George W's "ghost of gulf wars past, present and future." 2 minutes to midnite. George Bush wakes up in a cold sweat, with someone holding his neck and saying, look outside your White House, man. Look around the world, "The Whole World Is Marching, The Whole World Is..."
I predict this November Senate election goes 53 democrat -- 45 republican with two you-know-whats. We'll cross that bridge when we get there.

Wake Up, George; Wake Up America.

Many other places saw protest including thousands in Zaragoza, (reports still coming in from Barcelona and Sevilla), more than 600 in Nasville, Tenn.; about 200 in St. Louis, and as many as 1000 up the road from me in Madison.
Meanwhile numbers like 3,000-5,000 were tallied in Seattle, Minnesota: 10,000+, Kingston, NY: 1,000+ and Maine saw crowds exceeding 3,000.

Keep in mind, message means more than just numbers, but to get an idea of the import, you should know that places like Richmond, Va are still reporting while a few hundred had loud noisy fun in places like Portland, Oregon and Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Good news and good nite.

YORKSHIRE: A lockdown was made, blockading Menwith Hill Spy
Base. 750-1000 staff arriving for work at the base were turned
away for the day. No arrests were made. People, Eschelon was
stopped for a day!!! Yippie.

Big demo in the Netherlands. Thousands in Amsterdam and what
looks like tens of thousands in Rotterdam.

In Baghdad a handful of activists from the Iraq Peace Team
demonstrated outside the main United Nations compound.

2500+ Marched To Rumsfeld's House In Taos, NM. Hmmm. Easily,
a parallel can be drawn between Rumsfeld, and Taos' most
infamous middle aged white man, huh?

Kit Carson.

By the way, when you look over the numbers in Madison, WI.,
please keep in mind that they also sent three busses of
people to spend the weekend in DC. Is that about 180 peeps?

. . . about a thousand in Ann Arbor. . .

another thousand in Syracuse, NY,

Unpermitted rally draws 150 in St. Louis

hey, this listing is starting to sound like Subcommandante
Marcos' famous March 21st vote where you were allowed to
send in your ballot by carrier pidgeon, email, paper airplane
or even a message in a bottle with a cork on it. Remember
that? Hmmm. What was the URL of that, it was incredibly fun
to tally those up. Numbers, numbers numbers. "Oh when the
Saints, go marching in..."

We have the Indy 250,

http://indymedia.org/display.php3?article_id=212971

over 1000 people gathering at Spokane Washington's Community
Building where they listened to speakers and sang songs.

people asked and guessed how many people there were total in
the US, in the world.

We were many!

60 in Lewiston, Idaho. Yay!

"between 150-200 at our anti-war rally and picnic in Oklahoma City."

300 in Prescott, AZ., despite thunderstorms and hail.

No way, check this out! Over 300 men, women, children and their dogs
marched against the impending war on iraq on saturday in Juneau
Alaska; and Anchorage got a couple hundred too.
I was almost going to ask since there were so many in Rome, "how
many in Gnome," but I felt you'd call me dorky. So I held my tongue.
I should've asked, huh?

A rural resister also reported 150 people marching in Paonia, Colorado
70 people in Montrose, CO 300+ in Durango,CO and (??) in Glenwood Springs.

2500-3000 oppose the war in maine

and last thursday between 3 and 5 thousand people from very different
