Sham of the STW coalition

30.10.2002 11:46

Day of Direct Action!! Where, all those things you
have put down are either Rallys or Protests. How
dare you call them Direct Action. How dare you
think people are too stupid not to see through
this shame. The only people who have called and
are for direct action are the "Occupy Parliament"
people and a few student groups.

Shame on You

disobedience

this is not direct action

30.10.2002 14:16

Call this a day of direct action? its just more of the same old swp rallies and recruiting opportunities. What a fucking joke!

oi wank er

30.10.2002 14:20

peacenik - shut the fuck up. As Dis said thats all bullshit in your post the only DA happening on the day is through the occupation of parliament and the Pedal For Peace... stop lying to yourself and others.

DA now not rallys

True...

30.10.2002 14:30

Its true that those events are all rallys demos etc... but hopefully some groups around the country are gonna be organising direct action. I know quite a few colleges and universities are planning to go into occupation, people are planning 'die-ins' to blockade roads in cities across the UK, people are planning critical mass cycle rides and - of course - there's the 'Disobedients'attempt to occupy the houses of Parliament.

UNFORTUNATELY ONCE AGAIN WE ARE IN A SITUATION WHERE ONLY THE SWP/GLOBALISE RESISTANCE/STOP THE WAR COALITION TYPE GROUPS ADVERTISE THEIR EVENTS IN ANY MEANINGFUL WAY. PEOPLE ARE ORGANISING DIRECT ACTION. PLEASE START SHARING YOUR INFORMATION!!!!!!

Maybe it would be good if people organising direct action, as well as those organising demos, rallies etc... also posted the meeting times and places here.

I know the occupy parliament group is meeting at 6pm at the Houses of PArliament and that they are asking people to come disguised as ghosts to represent our invisibility in capitalist decission making and the thousands of Iraqiswho have dies as a result of 10 years of sanctions.

the usual apologia for action

30.10.2002 14:42

absolute travesty !
want to know why ?
because the people organising this are, themselves, little blairites of a new generation. they dont really want to upset things TOO much; essentially , they want all the benefits of things as they are, without horrid wars of course, which might upset their own little gravy -trains... typically pacifists want to stop wars, without abolishing any of the root causes that cause war per se.
its dawning on me that even the supposed 'opposition', the SWP, socialist alliance etc, are themselves complicit in this; ostensibly, they claim to be supporting Labour merely as a tactic, in order to split the 'genuine' people from the blairites, when in fact, to some extent, they actually subscribe to what Labour is doing- they too BELIEVE in blair's wider objectives. they are the true fools; they think Labours neo- capitalist collectivism, all the shit about partnerships, working together, etc, can be directed to socialist ends. they fail to understand the deeper implications of the blairite project, the asiaitic type 'mass nation' corporate state being built as we wake up each morning. the very danger is in the benificient face of this regime, the synthetic society that falsely tries to wish away all antagonisms in life; it is THIS which will be be jeopardised by war, and that is the only reason these little crawlie creeps are opposed to it. they care nothing except for their own feelings of superiority. they dont want that being upset by a war...

be nice to the SWP

30.10.2002 15:09

I love the SWP.
The SWP loves me.
The SWP will set you and me free.
The paper costs just 50p.

nice SWP person

Stop moaning

30.10.2002 16:05

Sure, the SWP never organise direct actions or illegal events. When they arrive at events they walk unasked into the cages set up for them by the cops. They call their rallies direct action when they're not. They want to water down the anti-capitalist movement because they're basically tied to Labour politics (they vote Labour in the majority of seats).

Glad you've being paying attention. But that's not all that's going on.

Thousands of people previously uninvolved in politics want to show real opposition, including getting arrested, against this war. Students are organising to do it. Many SWP people, especially new ones, are involved with the SWP because they look organised in comparison to anyone else.

Moaning about the SWP not organising direct action is like moaning about the police arresting you - not really the point. The point is to organise better, to create in-yer-face opposition to this war at all opportunities.

In Britain in 2002 we are in the unique position of having a chance to stop a third world war - but only if we make A LOT OF NOISE.

Let's do it...

Jules

yeah

30.10.2002 17:44

I agree. This is about stopping the War. It would be great if it could turn into something bigger, but it won't with all this in-fighting. Just go out and protest and forget your differences for a common cause.

Just as a note of interest, the Spanish civil war was lost due to the left-wing movements turning against each other. So stop bickering. No I don't support the SWP.

Dave

they set a date...

30.10.2002 17:53

Well, at least the STWC/SWP set a date for things to happen.

They are in a position where they can say, 'hey, let's all do something that day', and allow other groups, such as disobediance, pedal for peace, arrow, etc. to do actions all together on the same day.

The problem is not the SWP. The problem is the abscence of a peace movement. Who else is going to set a date for groups to act together ? The disobediance people ? But that will attract only the radicals. CND, PPU and others are not doing anything. Arrow has it's pledge, but then only organises Arrow actions without asking anyone else. It's the lack of co-ordination and agreement in the peace movement that leaves the door open to the likes of the SWP.

Peace,
gzzzt.

There are too many local actions in London!!!

30.10.2002 18:30

There are far too many local actions going on at the same time in London which are just a few miles away from each other and so all we will get in a few hundred people here and a few hundred people there. There needs to be just two actions in London, one a mass anti-war action somewhere in the heart of the West End at mid day to bring the West End to a standstill and two the critical mass bike ride.

The Parliament Square action is bit stupid really as it will be very easy for the police to pen everyone in, have people learned nothing from Mayday 2001 when thousands were penned in for hours at Oxford Circus. Far better would be to hold a mass anti-war carnival style parade through the west End similar to the Mayday in Mayfair event earlier this year which prevented people being penned in by police!

Harlequin

So, what are you going to do about it

30.10.2002 23:13

All the people whingeing about the lack of direct actions, why didn't you organise something then?

Just sitting on your lazy arses in front of the computer criticizing anyone else who bothers to organise doesn't strike me as any more effective.
