A REVOLUTIONARY CONFERENCE

DA KIDS | 18.11.2002 15:53

TAKING AIM... A REVOLUTIONARY CONFERENCE FOR 2003

WHAT: PUBLIC MEETING
PLACE: London Action Resource Centre (LARC)
52 Fieldgate St, London E2
WHEN: Thursday 21st November
TIME: 7.30pm

WHY:
An initial meeting to discuss organising a major national conference in the UK bringing together new resistence groups, community action groups, anti-immigration, direct action, anti-casualisation, anti-war groups, social centres, anybody & everybody who have enegry & ideas, coupled with an open & honest desire to explore concrete possibilities - inspiring & enpowering us in our struggles against capitalism, reviving & strengthening communication & confidence between groups & the population at large & kick starting the revolutionary process.

We particularly want to get away from the 'cult of activism' stifled by jargon, conventions & inaccessibilty, the dictatorship of personality, group identity & class bias.

Basically we want to get people, activists, anarchists, the angry, dispossessed, disillusioned, fearless, creative & curious, people who are willing (in whatever capacity), to get together, no party lines, no set agendas beyond the collective sincerity that we want an end to a social/economic system that denies us all a meaningful existence.

If you can't make the meeting at LARC you can join the discussion list by sending a blank e-mail to:
 conference-subscribe@lists.riseup.net
to exchange thoughts, ideas, information

is this a national conference or a london-wide one only?
sounds like a good idea.
if it is national perhaps it could be in somewhere relatively central like manchester or birmingham?
if its just for london, ignore me and good luck :)

I agree, but...

Aren't the aims of this planned conference similar to the aims of the PGA network? Why start something new when so many contacts/networks exist already? Maybe it's a better idea to improve on what we've got and use that as a basis to build on, or do some people feel limited by the PGA hallmarks and processes? (I can well imagine that not everyone's a fan of PGA.... What ever happened to the idea of a UK PGA meeting?)
New groups/networks/committees etc. are springing up all the time, but I don't necessarily agree that that's a good thing. I'm for building on existing relationships and trying to finish something, rather than constantly coming up with something new. But hey, that's only my opinion and I'm definately not against change, so I suppose a national gathering would be a good opportunity to discuss strategies and all the different networks etc. that already exist, and what people think of it all.

Conference

The conference in Bradford was inspired by the
meetings in Chiapas organised by the Zapatistas
which also inspired the PGA network forming a
few years later. Don't assume that the conference
"Taking Aim" and the PGA support work happening
in this country or other countries are two different
things. The conference idea actual came out of a few
of us which were in Leiden for the 2nd European PGA
conference.

How about a bit more notice next time?

How about a bit more notice next time? We aren't all free-spirits with time on our hands! Some of have to arrange childcare, get shift swaps or make travel plans. A bit more notice would be appreciated.
