The meeting will take place this Saturday at 6.30pm in the Cock Tavern, on the corner of Phoenix Road and Eversholt Street, London, five minutes from Euston Station. The meeting will follow the Stop the War Coalition conference which is taking place nearby.

The meeting will be an opportunity for people who want to step up direct action against the war to meet, chat and plot. Five minute films of the recent action at RAF Fairford and a banner drop and die-in in Brighton’s major shopping centre will be shown. Activists will be reporting on the (hopefully first of many) action at RAF Fairford – where B2 stealth bombers will take off from to murder Iraqi families - and last weekend’s invasion of the US airbase at Mildenhall which stopped US military aircraft landing.

Marches every few months, however big, will not in themselves worry the warmongers – they are a start, not an end in themselves. We need to step things up, both locally and nationally. We need to turn people’s anger into action by involving tens of thousands of people in blockading city centres, shutting military airbases, stopping ‘normal’ government activity and, well, you get the idea. As George Monbiot put it this week, “The usual demos will no longer suffice… there comes a point at which political commitment is meaningless unless you are prepared to act on it.”
