Pledge of Resistance | 05.03.2003 07:36

Obstruct & Resist - Push for Peace
Week Of Action againt the War designated for 17th - 23rd
of March. Statement from Pledge of Resistance gathering in London (1st March)calling for an increase in activity against any attack on Iraq.

OBSTRUCT AND RESIST!
Push For Peace
A Week of Non-violent Action to stop the War
17th – 23rd March

At a recent gathering of activists from around the
country it was decided to put out a call for the 17th
- 23rd March to be a national week of non-violent
action to stop the war, so obstructing, hindering
and resisting George Bush & Tony Blair’s mobilisation
for war. The aim of the week is to slow down, halt and
embarrass the government's war machine, as well as
targeting those arms and oil companies who are
supporting an Iraqi conflict. The week already
includes some large scale actions such as the
blockades and protests at USAF Fairford and Menwith
Hill on Saturday, 22nd of March. We hope others will
use their imagination and ingenuity to create similar
actions, industrial action, occupations and protests
during the rest of the week, especially on the
Monday,17th, which kicks off the week, and has been
proposed as a mass day of “die in”!!!

Monday 17th March - National “Die In Day”
Express to this government and its supporters what a
war really does, the suffering, pain and loss. We hope
groups and individuals will amass and demonstrate this
in city centres, air bases, oil, arms/financial
market offices etc, wherever visible. And that this
creativity is further expressed through street
theatre, image projection on public buildings,
adbusting, music, bloodied hands, shrines, wailing
women and “symbolic painting”, to capture the
sentiment and creativity of the day.

Shutting Down the War Machine
We have already seen some groups begin to target the
distribution centres for this war, train depots, air
bases and naval ports, but this has been sporadic. We
now call on all groups and organisations to maximise
the effect of these tactics both locally and
regionally during the week, so that we effectively
obstruct and halt the transportation of armaments,
troops, (by train, road and sea). Similarly, we need
to obstruct the leaving of military aircraft and naval
ships.

It is not just the MOD, who needs to be reminded of
our displeasure, we must also discourage those
corporations, especially the arms and oil industry who
will most benefit from this war. We ask for blockades,
dock invasions, office occupations, mass street
parties, raves, boycotts, closing particular petrol
stations (esso, BP etc), guerrilla gardening,
plowshares/pixieing, hacktivism, adbusting, and
disruption of companies' AGM’s/conferences etc.

International Day of Industrial Action – February 21st
Friday 21 March has been called 'a day of workplace
solidarity against war by (by Stop the War coalition
in 27 countries) This action is encouraging workplace
assemblies and various forms of industrial action.

Mass Military base blockades 22nd March
To finish off the week, as we started it, then
please support and network on the mass actions
which have been called at USAF Fairford and At Menwith
Hill for Saturday the 22nd of March. For more details
and background information on these actions then
contact: Fairford:

Menwith Hill:

'Obviously, though we call for creativity and
imagination for this week, your action should not harm
or dehumanize any other person.'
