Sunday action at Fairford

OSSTW | 11.03.2003 17:47

A group which included OSSTW activists broke into
USAF Fairford this Sunday, delaying the takeoff of
a transport plane.

This Sunday around 20 people were arrested after
various actions at USAF Fairford.

Activists from OSSTW, as well as many others, broke
in around the gate 13/14 area. Contrary to what some of
us have heard, there is currently no razor wire around
this side of the base (g12/13/14), although there are
a few dog handlers etc.

Several people got onto the runway, although none got
right up to the B52s stationed there. According to MoD
police, the action delayed the take-off of a transport
plane.

As the police hurried to clear the area, they even
arrested people who were outside the fence but refused
to move further away.

Several people were let off because the police were
overloaded with people. Others have been charged with
aggrevated trespass, with heavily restrictive bail
conditions (wide exclusion area around Fairford,
exclusion of 500 metres from any military establishment).

These bail conditions clearly contravene the right to
protest, and police admitted they were deliberately
intended to prevent people going to March 22 events.

Let's keep up the pressure on Fairford. Successful actions
are still highly do-able despite somewhat souped-up
security!

More details soon.

Lucky to have Fairford

12.03.2003 01:53

The OSSTW folks or whoever are lucky to have the brave men and women who serve at Fairford to defend their right to protest. I just wish the protesters would find something more sensible and productive to apply their efforts toward.
Go US and UK. Kick the S*%t out of Iraq and end this once and for all.

hmm

12.03.2003 02:42

Yeah, really brave to carpet bomb people from high
up in the sky. Really brave to target power plants,
civilian infrastructure etc with their "smart" bombs.
Really brave to use DU shells which leave the land as
a wasteland and cause birth deformities and cancer for
years to come. So brave to use mini-nukes, and daisy
cutters.

Whereas the ordinary people of Baghdad, going on with
business as usual despite all this horror, are blatantly
just cowards.

I'm so glad someone is "protecting" me from them. I'm so
glad the government and military are gracious enough to
grant us the right to protest. All the struggles and
hard-won fights of the people obviously had nothing
to do with it. They just let us protest out of the
goodness of their hearts, those wonderful politicians.

update & apology

12.03.2003 03:32

Update on numbers: 20 people were arrested, of which 7
were OSSTW activists, of which 5 have been charged.

Also, apparently a group got into the bomb store.

And BTW, I've just found out this story has already been
posted once. So apologies for reposting.

cardiff activists too!!

13.03.2003 19:21

It wasn't only oxford students - a small but determined group from the Cardiff Anarchist Network tagged along, making it onto the base and the runway.

Not that I want to blow our own trumpet......

Sorry, I would have mentioned C.A.N. as they were
very much appreciated, but without consulting them
I didn't know if they wanted to be mentioned :O

There were also some excellent people there from London
and Manchester, and probably others too.
