Powell rejects notion that U.S. policy driven by Jewish interests
WASHINGTON (AP) --Secretary of State Colin Powell flatly rejected on Thursday any suggestion that the Bush administration's confrontation with Iraq was engineered by Israel or American Jews.
Powell told a House Appropriations Subcommittee that the drive to compel Iraq to disarm stretches back over two administrations and 12 years of United Nations resolutions.
"It is driven by our own national interest," Powell said under questioning by the subcommittee chairman, Rep. Jim Kolbe, R-Arizona, who said he wanted to clear up media suggestions that American supporters of Israel -- and Israel itself -- were driving U.S. strategy.
Powell told the subcommittee the U.S policy "is not driven by any small cabal that is buried away somewhere," nor by a small group of individuals.
Among the U.S. goals are helping the U.N. to "do its job" and concern for the Iraqi people, Powell said.
Powell's comments came a day after Rep. Jim Moran, D-Virginia, apologized again for making comments asserting that influential leaders of the Jewish community were pushing the country toward war with Iraq.
Some Jewish leaders, including six Jewish members of Congress, have called on Moran to resign, but Moran says he has no intention of doing so.

The fact is that the relationship between the USA and Irael is the other way round from what the anti-semitic conspiracy theorists say: the USA supports Israeli Zionism politically, economically and militarily in its occupation of Palestine for US imperialist interests, not because Jews control the USA. Just the same way as it supports Turkish fascism (in Turkey most people who are religious are Muslims), Colombia (where most of the religious people are Christians) etc. It really has nothing to do with Jews and everything with imperialism's thirst for profit and determination to carve up the world.

The Art Bell Award For Fastest Conspiracy Posting Was Awarded Today to the Message Board at Palestine Indymedia.
Maxwell Smart, president of the Art Bell Foundation, today congratulated the Palestine Indymedia board for being the first outlet to surmise that Paul Wellstone's death was the result of a conspiracy hatched by the Jews.
"99 and I were truly impressed," Smart said. "The plane hadn't even hit the ground when the courageous dissidents at indymedia began pointing out inconsistencies in the official story that had yet to be released. Amazing!"
Accepting the award for Indymedia was Yasser, of the boards fiercest advocate of the view, that pretty much everything everywhere is the result of a conspiracy by the Jews. The crowd cheered as he put on one of his spiffiest propellerhats.
"From the beginning, indymedia has raised the hard questions that sane people have refused to address," Yasser said. "We were the first to point out that remote controlled planes directed by the Israeli Mossad were behind 9/11. We were the ones to point out about 4000 Jews not showing up at the WTC and we were the only ones to note, the extraordinary physical resemblance between Osama bin Laden and Ariel Sharon.
Yasser added, that anyone who disagreed with him, was probably someone who thought having 2 month old sucide bombers was wrong.

It is interesting that Powell has had to try and rebut such claims. He wouldn't bother if a lot of people were not asking a few questions about it.
