Today the World Weeps

Candice Trevor | 20.03.2003 00:53

Today the world weeps. Tomorrow we grow stronger in our united will for peace.

Today the World Weeps

We watch as 25 kilometers of killers march across a desert to conquer a city of children. We listen to the American propaganda of death or ‘liberation’. We feel the fear of oppressed people whose children have died because richer nations want their oil. We hear their prayers of supplication to Allah as they wait for the rain of death from the skies.

The millions who have tried to wage peace are mourning today. We mourn for the people of Iraq, and we mourn for our civilization. We grieve for our black souls because we realize that we have not yet learned to live in peace with love. We have made the god of Money our reason for living, and now this god has become a reason for dying.

Today the world weeps. And with the weeping comes cleansing and renewed faith. We are united in our grief, and we are united in our determination to wage peace and to make this world fair. We know that United Will can do what the United Nations failed to do. We have allowed the controllers of our world to wage wars, divide nations, and enslave the poor.

Those who die today sacrifice themselves so that more people will awaken to the truth. Our leaders have lied to us. Our leaders have betrayed our trust and our loyalty. Our leaders have failed their nations, and the world. And now this war forces us to see the deception.

Today the world weeps. Tomorrow, we unite in our will.

Thanks for your post. I'm American, and every single person I know in America agrees with you.

Despite one of the heaviest propaganda campaigns since WWII, Bush has convinced far less than half of Americans that this war is necessary (in other words, he's convinced about as many people as were willing to vote for him in the first place). And a recent poll shows that 66 percent of Americans believe that the Bush Doctrine of "pre-emptive war" is illegal and immoral.

I can understand why people in other countries look at us and despair...but I believe that the majority of Americans who oppose this administration's lust for Empire will--with your help--eventually stop it dead in its tracks. Like many other Americans, I've been getting only a few hours sleep each night for weeks now--partially from worrying about the madmen leading us into war, partially from making the effort to stop them. People in the US feel strongly about this, and they're not giving up just because bombs are falling. Quite the contrary.

Anyone who's reading this who is feeling despair should remember that we are the majority, and are bound to win eventually if we stay active.

But even if we don't win--even if these men are so far gone in greed and arrogance and moral blindness that they'd rather destroy the world than let gentler, saner hands guide it--at least we will have the peace of mind that comes from knowing we never tried to pretend that setting fire to children is a morally acceptable action.

Peace!
