Take Your Message to the BBC, Wed, 26th

WB | 23.03.2003 22:01

Not happy with the BBC reporting of anit-war protests ? Take the message to their doorstep.

There have been a number of comments on the newswire recently about biased BBC reporting. Some of this centred around the recent anti-war protests since the start of the Iraq conflict. Particularly focus on the fact that M22 was smaller than F15 now that war was underway. Also a lot of anti-war actions are going unreported as journalists focus on the killing fields.

There is a way to make the BBC listen. Take the message to their doorstep. BBC Television Centre is located on Wood Lane, Shepherds Bush. BBC News 24 is produced in a small studio on the first floor of the newer semi-circular part of Television Centre. Out the front of this building is a wide footpath leading to doors that every employee in the building, that don't drive a car, must pass through before entering their offices.

This therefore is a suggestion of taking the protest to the BBC's very doorstep. Make yourselves heard by the BBC on Wednesday, March 26th, 8.30am. Official BBC work hours don't start until 9.30am, so an 8.30am protest will be seen and heard by most employees. Bring your placards, bring your whistles, bring your drums, bring your horns, bring your voices and make a noise. You cannot be ignored!

If there happens to be a Critical Mass ride up Wood Lane or around Shepherd's Bush Green, this will create traffic havoc as any small interuption to traffic flow in this area causes chaos and long delays.

Weekend protests, centred in the city, are clearly not enough. Take the message to the very front door of the State broadcasting authority. Take your activism up a level.

When: Wednesday March 26th, 8.30am
Where: BBC Television Centre, Wood Lane, Shepherds Bush

Excellent plan. Anyone out there interested in doing something similar in Manchester?

And Leeds?

23.03.2003 23:09

I hear that Leeds activists have previously occupied the BBC North studios in Leeds late last least year.

I hear that it didn't last long.

I also hear that there is a constant police guard now at the building.

Are Leeds AWAs going to try again?

Manchester

I think quite a few people will be up for this. Certainly in Manchester where the local news has tried its best to play down, ignore and/or bad mouth the pretty successful protests.

definetly

i wonder how hard it would be for us to storm the bbc broadcasting building, or where they send their bias news. if just a handful from the million+ last saturday could try to get into the building we could probably manage it. we might even be able to do our own report of the war. This would probably be very hard, and im probably overlooking security, and other details. But, something like this should be arranged, that would be the way to really get a revolution going!

Security at BBC

24.03.2003 07:04

There are approximately 4 security guards in yellow jackets at the BBC Television Centre building each morning. Two of these are usually outside the main pedestrian entrances, the others at vehicle entrances. Although after the posting here there may be more on Wednesday morning.

There are only 2 or 3 single entry doors into the building. After entering the foyer there is another set of rotating doors that don't move unless activated by a BBC security pass. There is also another internal security guard at this access point.

If you wanted to try and enter the building the best suggestion may be trying the vehicle entrance, which is just slight closer to Shepherds Bush Green than the pedestrian entrance to Television Centre. Once into the parking area access could be gained to an entrance area usually used by "stars" arriving at the studios.

However, it is right above the pedestrian entrance that News 24 is produced.

And Also

24.03.2003 15:43

And also, if you can't make it to this protest - email the bbc with your comments on their news coverage first thing that morning, so that when they do get into work they'll have even more people complaining.
All the contact details I could find are as follows:-

BBC staff are workers too

24.03.2003 18:43

Not a bad idea, but just remember that BBC staff are workers too, and don't always have free choice as to what their political lords and masters tell them.
You might look at the NUJ website (www.nuj.org.uk) for the story of the sackings in the BBC Arabic Section just before the war.
